For such a lightweight shoe, they’ve held up really well.
If you haven’t discovered them yet, time to try on a pair.
I tested the Trek on a mixture of dirt fire roads, pavement, and steep, rocky single track – and they held up well across the board.
Overall it would be hard to find a better approach shoe to take with you into the mountains.
Updates to Astral TR1 Trek
- The TR1 Trek is a lightweight hiking shoe designed to help outdoor enthusiasts take on technically challenging trails and canyoning adventures. Its amphibious construction gives it an edge in wet environments by proactively shedding most types of watery elements.
- Offering terrain protection and security is the shoe’s sole unit. It is comprised of Astral’s proprietary G.15 rubber outsole and a level midsole.
Astral TR1 Trek size and fit
Astral’s TR1 Trek is a low-cut day hiking shoe for men and women. According to the brand, this hiker runs true to size. It comes in regular width in full and half sizes. It has an adequately wide forefoot zone which gives the toes enough wiggle room. Its lacing system provides a simple approach to foot lockdown and fit customization.
Granting wearers the right amount of grip on tricky backcountry surfaces is the TR1 Trek’s non-marking G.15 outsole. Its aggressive lugs, with a depth of 5 mm, get to claw into soft-soiled terrain, delivering ample slip and skid resistance in virtually every angle. Its front end covers the tip of the footgear, providing users with extra protection against bumps and knocks.
This Astral hiker gives users underfoot cushioning and stability with its extra-stout midsole. It has quite the level construction from heel to ball, providing wearers with a more balanced experience on the trail. Since it is embedded with a company-owned technology called Top Shank, this chunky platform is capable of reducing foot fatigue.
A removable insert sits atop the shoe’s midsole for additional comfort underfoot. It can fight off and prevent stink as it is imbued with Polygiene’s odor control technology.
The TR1 Trek’s upper is made chiefly of hydrophobic canvas textile. It has sturdy TPU overlays and a supportive EVA heel cup. Its closure system uses synthetic laces and combination eyelets most of which are D-rings made of brass. On its heel is a pull loop for quicker on and off.
