For its durability, it's been holding pretty well; been using this for maybe two yhears now.
As is a common complaint with many wrestling shoes, if should of course be noted the it will take some time to break these shoes in, however Asics are renowned for their shoes lasting for extended periods of time, you can trust that the break-in time is well-worth it.
If you’re in search for a pair of wrestling shoes that can hold up to the brutality of the sport, look no further because Asics has got your back. The brand designed the Split Second 9 with power in mind. The outsole is crafted to support flexibility and traction on the mat. As for the top, the combination of mesh, strategically wrapped in synthetic overlays ensure a proper foothold that can help wearers get the upper hand.
The trainer sports the same high-top silhouette as its predecessor. However, the striking difference that you’ll immediately notice is that the overlays on the hindfoot of the Split Second 9 are web-like. On the Split Second 8, the overlays take on a more parallel form. Other than the top design, the two shoes employ the same sole technologies and features.
Another highly rated wrestling shoe that comes with a split sole is the Adidas Combat Speed 5. Both trainers use a Velcro structure to secure the shoestrings, but the Combat Speed 5’s strap doubles as ankle support enhancement.
The Slipt Second 9 features a split sole construction. Grippy rubber is placed under the heel and the forefoot. This layout allows the wearer to push off using the toes, or dig their heel into the mat to prevent being taken down. Circular structures on the rubber serve as suction cups that aid in mat adherence during matches. The rest of the outsole and the lower part of the upper are covered in a suede-like material that helps reduce traction to facilitate sliding of the foot. The platform also functions as a cushioning unit that decreases the impact during foot landings.
Comfort. The top of the Split Second 9 is made from mesh covered in suede and synthetic materials. Mesh is a lightweight and soft fabric that promotes ventilation of the interior to keep the foot fresh during matches. The walls of the foot chamber are lined with soft fabric that helps with moisture control.
Protection. Areas prone to abuse, like the bottom part of the upper, the eyestay, the quarters and the heel, are all reinforced with overlays. They not only protect against abrasion but also keep the structure of the top.
Foothold. The trainer features an asymmetrical lacing system. This lace-up closure follows the natural curve of the foot to deliver a more customized fit and hold. In the front of the tongue is the Lace Garage. This element keeps the laces from untying or getting in the way while wrestling.
