Asics created the Snapdown 2 to accommodate the needs of both male and female wrestlers. It borrows most of the technologies used on the previous iteration, like the unisole technology that is grippy, in and out of the mat. What sets the two models apart is the layout of the synthetic overlays on the upper. For the Snapdown 2, the material is now more prominent outside the collar for more reliable ankle hold. The single-layer top material ensures freshness of the foot as well as unhindered movements.
Another model to consider, if you’re a fan of Asics wrestling shoes, is the Aggressor 4. It also sports a unisole and has supportive elements on the upper for a secure foothold.
A full-length gum rubber sole protects the underside of the Snapdown 2. This compound is grippy. The disc-like structures on the perimeter enhance its multi-directional traction. It is also constructed to wrap up some areas of the upper for protection and to aid in pushing off regardless of foot position.
The trainer lacks a dedicated midsole that is usually found in workout shoes. Thus, the outsole doubles as a shock-absorbing unit, preventing discomfort and injuries.
Comfort. The Asics Snapdown 2 employs a single-layer mesh for its top. The material facilitates flexibility of the foot. It also keeps the interior fresh. There are also perforations on the collar to help with ventilation.
Foothold. Suede overlays reinforce areas that are subjected to frequent abrasions like the eyestay of the lacing system, the outer side of the collar, the lateral side of the midfoot, the tongue, and the toe box. They prevent the early deterioration of the underlying fabric. In front of the tongue is the integrated Lace Garage. This cleverly hidden pocket ensures that the shoestrings do not untie or get in the way during a match.
