Asics created the Matflex 4 is as a companion to novice wrestlers. It is priced quite low compared to other wrestling shoes, but it uses materials that can deliver support and traction to wearers. Its high-top silhouette provides adequate ankle support.
The upper is crafted from mesh and synthetic overlays to give users reliable foothold while also maintaining a comfortable foot environment. As for the sole unit, this thin material is made from a grippy compound that allows the person to hold his stance or push off.
If a more straightforward top is what you are after, check out the Asics Matflex 5. These two models share the same silhouette and most of the technologies, but the Matflex 5 uses fewer overlays than the previous iteration.
Grip. A full-length rubber protects the underside of the Asics Matflex 4. This compound is grippy on wrestling mats. It has a multi-directional tread pattern and discs that perform like suction cups to enhance its bite on the mat. The sole’s thin disposition allows the foot to bend naturally.
Cushioning. The outsole also serves as the midsole, which means that the soft rubber attenuates shock to prevent injuries to the foot and joints of the lower leg.
Breathability. The Matflex 4 employs an open mesh upper. This fabric allows air to pass through to maintain a comfortable environment for the foot.
Foothold. Suede overlays protect high-wear areas of the top. They are found on the bottom part of the upper, which connects to the sole, helping the foot slide when needed. The overlays also reinforce the eyelets, preventing premature ripping associated with regular fit adjustments.
At the back, the protective covering forms a panel that helps with the heel lockdown. The Asics vector logo is made from a synthetic material which renders lateral support when the laces are cinched. An integrated Lace Garage is found on the top portion of the tongue which keeps the shoestrings from getting in the way.
