You may not be in control of all aspects of your life, but you can rule the mat when you’re wearing a pair of Asics Matcontrol. This wrestling trainer is designed with support and agility in the foreground. The upper is constructed using layers of mesh and synthetic overlays that help in the foot and ankle hold. The split sole construction of the bottom ensures that wearers can move effortlessly on the mat.
If you like the sturdiness of the Matcontrol but prefer more underfoot grip, check out the Asics Matflex 6. The Matflex 6 features a full-length rubber outsole with a segmented design that aids in pliability. It offers more breathability than the Matcontrol because overlays do not cover most of the top.
A hybrid outsole covers the bottom of the Asics Matcontrol. It is similar to a split sole layout, wherein the rubber is located under the forefoot and the heel, while the middle portion is covered in suede. In this model, the arch area is not fully covered in suede. There’s a strip of rubber in the middle of the arch, which improves the grip.
The dotted tread pattern promotes multi-directional grip. Meanwhile, the diagonal grooves at the forefoot facilitate flexibility during front, back, and side-to-side movements.
If you’re wondering why there’s suede on the outsole, it serves to reduce traction. This element makes it easier for the foot to slide, especially when it is trapped in an awkward position.
The top of the Asics Matcontrol is a combination of mesh, suede, and synthetic overlays. Mesh keeps the foot chamber ventilated. It is seen on the medial portion of the vamp, quarters, and the tongue. There are also pores on the collar, aiding in breathability.
The overlays maintain the structure of the upper. They help with the foothold, aside from protecting the underlying mesh against abrasion. The suede lining at the bottom section of the upper reinforces it and aids in the smooth gliding on the mat.
For fit customization, the lacing system helps with that. There’s an integrated lace garage on the tongue that prevents the shoestrings from untying during matches. And because there’s no Velcro, it won’t scratch you or your opponent when it comes in contact with the skin.
A light layer of foam lines the collar and the tongue. Not only do they add an element of comfort, but hey also help keep the fit snug. They allow users to tighten the laces for better ankle support without being too restrictive and painful.
