Good to know
Stability and motion control add-ons are uncommon for workout shoes and are never present in CrossFit or weightlifting footwear. They are mostly found in walking shoes where the gait is easier to correct.
Training footwear typically weighs between 200g and 300g per shoe to accommodate agile workouts. Minimalist trainers go as low as 150g, while weightlifting shoes can go as high as 500g.

Updates to Asics JB Elite TR
- The Asics JB Elite TR was created in collaboration with Jordan Burroughs, an Olympic freestyle wrestling champion. But it is not a wrestling shoe as it lacks ankle support. It is a tool designed for everyday training, especially workouts in the gym.
- This model uses the Flexion Fit® upper. It is made from a form-fitting mesh material that is lightweight and breathable. It is surrounded by a thin polyurethane (PU) which reinforces the fabric to enhance support.
- The midsole is made from a flexible foam that allows foot flexion. The heel features the Rearfoot Gel® technology to attenuate the force of impact.
- The rubber outsole features the Asics Guidance Line, a deep groove in the center which reduces the imbalance during the heel-to-toe off motion and keep the foot steady. Flex grooves are present in the forefoot to promote flexibility, while the tread pattern and lugs enhance the traction of the rubber.
Asics JB Elite TR size and fit
The Asics JB Elite TR is only available in the men’s version and generally runs true to size. It comes in D – Medium width. The form-fitting mesh material may feel too snug for some users, a factor that should be considered when getting a pair. Consumers are advised to try the shoe in person to obtain an agreeable fit.
The outsole of the JB Elite TR is made from rubber with a tread pattern that uses a combination of shallow and deep grooves. These grooves enhance the friction of rubber when it is in contact with a smooth surface, thus preventing slippage when walking or running. The deep grooves give the sole more flexibility, allowing the foot to move naturally.
The rubber on the outsole is durable and is able to everyday wear and tear associated with training. Its resilience allows it to move with the foot but also return to its original shape. The outsole is also hard enough to keep the foot protected.
During running and training, the foot can experience a vertical impact force equivalent to 3 to 5 times the person’s body weight. To soften the impact, the JB Elite TR uses Asics’ Rearfoot Gel technology. This technology absorbs the force as well as aids in the transition of the foot to the mid-stance.
The material of the midsole makes the shoe flexible and it promotes natural foot movement. The midsole also acts to stabilize the foot during movements such as lifting heavy weights or squatting that requires the foot to be firmly planted on the ground.
The JB Elite TR features a Flexion Fit upper, a proprietary technology that delivers form-fitting material that also provides adequate support. The upper is made from the combination of a flexible mesh fabric that has been reinforced with a polyurethane breathable material. The mesh upper accommodates toe splaying while the PU material delivers the support needed especially for lateral movements.
The shoe features a traditional lacing system with rounded laces to keep the foot secure when it is tightened.
Padding is found on both the tongue and collar of the shoe. This cushioning not only delivers comfort, but it also helps in locking the foot in place during workouts.
The low-cut profile of the shoe makes it suitable for everyday training, but not conducive for wrestling moves because it lacks ankle support. It also features an Achilles notch that ensures the shoe will not dig into the skin while working out.
