Asics crafted the International Lyte as a high-top wrestling shoe that exudes mobility and strength. Its tough exterior ensures that it can take the abrasions of on-the-mat actions. Its bottom uses a rubber compound that allows users to push off and maintain their stance while super suede permits quick foot movements. The high collar with the padded inside not only provides comfort, but also the ankle lockdown that wrestlers need.

Traction. The International Lyte features a split sole unit. Textured rubber is found under the forefoot and the heel sections while super suede wraps the rest of the bottom. The use of two contrasting materials helps wrestlers better maneuver their feet. The rubber compound grips the mat while the super suede allows the foot to slide when needed.

Flexibility. The sole unit is thin, which gives the wearers better ground feedback. Its thinness also makes it easier for the foot to move naturally.

Support and protection. The Asics International Lyte sports a high-top silhouette. The over-the-ankle height of the collar, together with the plush interior, supports and protects the ankle while wrestling. The Ecsaine material behaves like regular suede but has been engineered to be more durable. The same material is used as overlays, along with synthetic ones, to reinforce high-wear areas of the top and enhance lateral support.

Breathability. Like suede, Ecsaine is not breathable, but it does have perforations on the quarters to help with ventilation. Other elements that aid in heat management of the foot chamber are the mesh-covered tongue and the smooth fabric lining the inside of the shoe.

Lockdown. A traditional lacing system is found on the instep area. This structure allows users to customize the fit and amplify ankle support by tightening the laces.

Fit. The toe box is designed to be spacious to accommodate toe splaying while the fit in the ankle is snug because of the plush tongue and collar. This footwear also employs Asics’ Mono-Sock Fit system, an internal sleeve meant to deliver a snug, yet comfortable in-shoe experience. This technology can also be found on the Dan Gable Evo.
