Good to know

The Asics Gel Ziruss 2 fully embraces a modern look with its use of cloth-like upper and printed overlays. Like its predecessor, the original Gel Ziruss model, the midsole unit still features multiple technologies, though the pod-like look of the outer walls is now replaced with diamond-shaped indentations and a curved structure that aims to mimic the smoothness of the step.

Runners can use their usual choices of size when deciding to get the Gel Ziruss 2 as it uses the regular sizing schemes. Still, being able to test this Asics running shoe prior to purchase or get wind of user reviews that tackle the quality of the in-shoe experience can potentially improve the perception of comfort.

The outsole unit of the Asics Gel Ziruss 2 is made of AHAR®+ or Asics High Abrasion Rubber+. This version of the revered technology is touted to be 50% more durable than the regular AHAR® variant. It is tasked with protecting the bottom portion of the midsole unit from the abrasive nature of the surfaces, thus ensuring the form and longevity of the cushioning system. It also provides traction, giving the wearer the capacity to control the movements on the ground.

Flex grooves permit the platform to move in conjunction with the foot as it traverses the gait cycle. The forefoot lift benefits the most as it is the part of the step that exercises flexibility the most.

SpEVA™ is an extra springy version of the industry-standard ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. This full-length piece is tasked with providing support to the whole foot, giving it constant cushioning and bounciness, particularly when taking each step. Energized steps are highly beneficial to the performance.

A light yet steady topsole accommodates the weight of the foot-pad, providing a steady surface that is balanced and secure. Having multiple layers of cushioning is coined by Asics as the FluidRide™ system. It also involves a slightly curved construction that welcomes the natural progression of the heel-to-toe transition.

GEL®, the silicon-based technology that is responsible for absorbing the impact shock generated during the landing phase of the gait cycle, is placed in the heel and forefoot sections of the Gel Zirruss 2’s platform. The potential discomfort associated with impact shock is halted by these elements. GEL® is used in many Asics series, including the highly-revered Gel Kayano line.

The upper unit of the Gel Ziruss 2 features engineered mesh. This cloth-like material offers seamless and non-irritating coverage. Flexibility is also one of its features. Furthermore, the open construction allows it to welcome environmental air into the foot-chamber.

Printed overlays allow the upper unit to assist the upper unit’s fabrics in terms of securing the foot in place. These thin prints don’t add any weight to the silhouette, yet they bring some oomph to the aesthetics.
