Good to know
- The Asics Gel Quantum 180 2 MX is a running shoe that’s designed for neutral pronators. It makes use of a visible Gel® construction, which means that the company’s own silicon-based, shock-absorbing unit is evident in the external section of the underfoot platform. The Gel® is long, covering the lateral and heel areas in a J-shaped configuration.
- Unlike its progenitor, the original Quantum 180 2, which features a mesh upper that has a looser weave, the MX version’s fabric is more tightly woven. This design change doesn’t sacrifice breathability because it still has ventilation pores.
The Asics Gel Quantum 180 2 MX and its original version, the Gel Quantum 180 2 has a standard running shoe length. It makes use of regular measurements to accommodate the preferences of consumers regarding size. The available widths are B – Medium for women and D – Medium for men. It has a semi-curved shape that mimics the natural curve of the human foot.
Just the like the popular Asics Gel Cumulus 20, the outsole unit of the Asics Gel Quantum 180 2 MX features the Asics High Abrasion Rubber or AHAR®. This material aims to shield the midsole foam from the abrasive nature of the surfaces. It also provides traction through its non-prominent lugs and nodes.
The flex grooves allow the foot to transition through the gait cycle with ease. They also encourage the natural bending capacity of the metatarsals, particularly during the toe-off phase.
The midsole unit of the Gel Quantum 180 2 MX has Solyte®. This full-length compound is touted to be lighter than the usual offerings, such as ethylene vinyl acetate or Asics’ own SpEVA® foam. It carries the foot throughout the running sessions and keeps it safe from impact. It’s also designed to withstand early sagging or breakdown.
The front and back portions are reinforced with Gel®. This silicon-based unit is responsible for attenuating impact shock when striking the foot on the ground. Its visible part is shaped like the letter J, covering the lateral side and the heel area—two areas that are mostly involved during the landing phase.
The Trusstic System® is a plastic unit that’s placed right underneath the midsole foam. This full-length component provides integrity to the structure of the platform. It also makes sure to support the muscles and tendons of the underfoot, encouraging more energy as the runner propels forward.
The ComforDry™ sock liner adds a bit more cushioning for the wearer. Moreover, its antimicrobial and anti-moisture capabilities bring a healthy and odor-free experience.
Seamless construction is employed in the Asics Gel Quantum 180 2 MX. The smoothness and softness of this design help in preventing irritation and blistering.
Mesh makes up most of the façade. It has a tight weave, but it doesn’t sacrifice breathability. It still has ventilation pores to accommodate environmental air into the foot-chamber.
Mesh panels are stitched onto the façade, covering the lateral and medial sides, as well as the heel. The purpose of these add-ons is to assist in providing a snug and secure wrap. They also have pores patterned across them to encourage breathability.
The padded tongue and collar hold the foot in place, preventing it from wobbling or exiting the shoe accidentally.
The Gel Quantum 180 2 MX makes use of an Ortholite® last. The widely known material is used as a lasting board that connects the upper and the sole unit. Aside from bringing more cushioning, it also ramps up the prevention of odor and bacteria.
