Coming from Asics’ Netburner Ballistic line, you can expect great things from this pair of volleyball shoes. It is equipped with several layers of cushioning technologies, providing shock attenuation, rebound, and comfort. The unique construction of the upper makes it durable while not diminishing its pliability. Because it is built for indoor use, the rubber outsole is specifically designed to grip polished floors.
There is a low-top version of the Gel Netburner Ballistic MT. The Asics Gel Netburner Ballistic uses the same monicker, except there is no ‘MT’ in its name. The low-top version has the same type of rubber for the outsole; several layers of midsole cushioning for shock attenuation and comfort; a structured top for foot containment.
Traction. Two types of proprietary rubber are used on the Gel Netburner Ballistic MT: AHAR and N.C. Rubber. Both compounds are durable, very grippy, and non-marking. However, N.C. Rubber has more natural rubber in its blend, accounting for its softness.
Under the ball of the foot is a pivot point. The smooth surface of the disc reduces the traction, making aggressive turns easy on the knees.
Movement. In general, the outsole of this footgear is pretty flexible, but there are grooves on it that ease the toe-off phase. The edges of the outsole are rounded. This construction aids in side-to-side agility.
Being pliable has its downside, though, it can cause arch pain, especially with all the jumping and running. To prevent this, Asics equipped this model with the Trusstic System. It is a lightweight piece of plastic that adds to rigidity to the midfoot without making the shoe heavy.
Rebound. The Asics Gel Netburner Ballistic MT is equipped with the FluidRide cushioning unit. FluidRide is a type of midsole that combines two Asics technologies: SpEVA and Solyte. Solyte is a lightweight foam that absorbs impact, while SpEVA is a responsive element. The combination of these two foam materials results in a durable layer that has both shock attenuation and bounce. It ensures that the foot and the joints of the lower extremities are protected from impact while aiding in energized takeoffs.
Comfort. Looking at the lateral side of the midsole, a shiny black element is visible in the forefoot and heel areas. This is Asics’ proprietary Gel cushioning system. It is a semi-liquid compound that adapts to the movements of the foot, thereby reducing pressure where it is needed for prolonged comfort.
Comfort. The top of the Gel Netburner Ballistic MT is made of mesh. This fabric is soft, allowing the foot to move and expand naturally. It is also breathable, aiding in heat dissipation and fresh air cooling down the interior. The inside is lined with soft mesh fabric, helping with moisture and temperature control.
Lockdown. Atop the mesh is a synthetic overlay that forms a quarter panel brace that integrates with the lace-up closure. It wraps the midfoot and heel, supporting them during lateral movements. Polyurethane (PU) covers the forefoot section, protecting it against abrasion. The slotted appearance ensures that air can pass through and keep the foot fresh.
Fit. Thanks to the cushioned collar and tongue, the upper comfortably hugs the foot. The plushness also prevents sore spots and blisters. These elements also prevent accidental heel slippage while playing.
- The Asics Gel Netburner Ballistic MT has been awarded the APMA Seal of Acceptance. This means that the American Podiatric Medical Association found this model to be promoting good foot health.
