The major selling point of combining style and performance worked for the Gel Lyte III as it changed the game for running shoes by being also a lifestyle sneaker with its vibrant colorways and edgy design. However, after its release, the model was discontinued and only reissued several years later in 2000. Disney and Asics teamed up for collaboration on two famous animated movies. The first collaboration was the Asics Gel Lyte III Disney Beauty and the Beast that was released just in time for the blockbuster remake movie of 2017.

Opting for a more feminine look, designers paid homage to Belle’s character in the Beauty colorway released on March 9, 2017, with muted off-white tones and beige hits on the leather overlays. A rose pattern is also stitched on the tongue and sidewall while a Beauty and the Beast Insignia is neatly placed at the bottom sole. Another variation of the shoe pays homage to the Beast character with a darker coffee colorway with indigo accents.
