We spent 6.4 hours reading reviews from experts and users. In summary, this is what runners think:

7 reasons to buy

  • Synthetic materials and mesh make up the upper unit of the FujiTrainer 3.

  • The Lace Pocket allows the runner to stow the laces neatly into a tab, while the Removable Sock Liner lets them customize the level of cushioning.

  • Natural flexibility and lightweight support are enhanced by the Slip Last, which is essentially the means of wrapping and gluing that part to the mid-sole.

  • The SpEVA mid-sole material allows springiness while also reducing the chances of the mid-sole breaking down easily, according to some testers.

  • The Gel Cushioning System can be found in the heel and forefoot area and it essentially dissipates the shock when landing the foot on the ground.

  • A Trail-specific Outsole with AHAR+ ensures durability and traction based on several comments from runners.

  • Many runners acclimated well to the average weight of the FujiTrainer 3.

4 reasons not to buy

  • Some runners didn’t like the plastic look of this model.

  • Others noted that the cushioning is lacking in the heel area.

  • The upper irritated the skin of some testers when they tried to wear it without socks, so it’s best to wear socks first.

  • There were testers who felt that the toe area was a bit too narrow, clumping their toes together in an uncomfortable manner.

Bottom line

The Gel FujiTrainer 3 from Asics offers the needed tasks to make each run more agreeable and more responsive. Trail running is the specialty of this shoe and it does its purpose well when handling the unpredictable terrain.

The Fuji Trainer 3.0 is an excellent all-around shoe that provides enough protection and comfort for long days on the trail without completely sacrificing handling and responsiveness.

Updates to Gel FujiTrainer 3

The 3rd version of the Gel FujiTrainer from Asics is a versatile running shoe that can function efficiently, whether on the trails or on the roads. This shoe has an adequate weight that’s forgiving, so runners can streak through the paths with confidence and ease. The trail-specific outsole can handle flat surfaces well, making it very able to handle surface transitions.

The upper unit uses a breathable material that allows the foot to stay dry and cool as air constantly circulates in and out of the unit. The padded collar and gusseted tongue lock the foot in place and even protects it from debris that may try to enter the shoe.

The mid-sole platform is made from materials and compounds that are strong, yet comfortable for the foot. When the foot stands on it, it feels well-supported from impact and shock. Cushioning is also a definite part of its service and the system that offers this is lightweight and responsive.

The outsole unit has been optimized to function well on the trails. It features gripping lugs on its surface to allow the foot to traverse the land more surely and effectively. But they’re not too prominent, so the outsole can still work well even on flatter surfaces, such as asphalt. The rubber material is able to hold onto the topography, so slippage is greatly negated.

Gel FujiTrainer 3 size and fit

The Asics Gel FujiTrainer 3 has a regular length. It comes in sizes that follow the standard measurements for men and women. The width of this shoe is medium, so it is accommodating of feel that are medium sized. Its semi-curved shape acknowledges and adheres to the natural curvature of the human foot.

The Trail-specific Design of the outsole unit makes sure that the runner gets the right amount of traction when traversing the unpredictable terrain. Gripping lugs that face multiple directions allow the foot to go up and down the topography with more control on the ground. They aren’t prominent, so the outsole can still work well on the roads.

The AHAR® or the Asics High Abrasion Resistant Rubber is placed on the outsole to deliver exceptional protection against wear and potential damage. This rubber makes up the material that allows the gripping lugs to hold onto the ground. It’s strong and efficient in its purpose.

The Gel® Cushioning System is a gel-based material that’s separately placed in the heel and forefoot sections of this running shoe. It protects the foot from impact and shock when striking on the ground, so each step becomes more comfortable.

The Solyte® is a mid-sole material that’s more lightweight than the regular SpEVA® or EVA that’s most commonly used for the platform. It’s still durable, but it gives responsible cushioning and flexibility so that the foot can move more naturally.

Breathable mesh covers the entire upper unit of the Asics Gel FujiTrainer 3. It’s a soft and comfortable material that moves with the foot. It constantly encourages air to enter the shoe and keep the foot cool and dry, even after long races.

Synthetic overlays add more structure to the upper unit. They’re stitched onto the mesh material. Directly connected to the lacing system, they react when the shoe laces are adjusted, making the fit more customizable for each runner.

The padded collar and the gusseted tongue lock the foot down and keep it in place at all times. Dust and debris won’t be able to invade the interior environment because of the protective and secure nature of these components.
