It's made a bit less flexible, but more protective, by the rock plate in the midsole.
I do think this would make an excellent hybrid shoe, especially for someone who’s going to be running on pavement to get to their favorite trail or something like that.
While they are a little heavy for race day speed, they keep feet happy and healthy over long training miles.
The ASICS Gel Fuji Attack 4 is a cushioned general purpose trail shoe. The shoe’s midsole stiffness and low-profile lugs excel on groomed trail and other smooth surfaces, but the shoe’s traction struggles on rock and anything wet.
Updates to Asics Gel FujiAttack 4
- The 4th version of the Asics Gel FujiAttack is an update that continues to bring quality performance to trail running enthusiasts. It makes use of tried and tested technologies in order to make a cohesive whole that’s meant to become formidable on unpredictable terrain. Its durable nature allows it to last long, making it as efficient as ever, even after many uses.
- The upper unit of this Asics trail running shoe makes use of a comfortable fabric that’s meant to shield the foot from dust and debris. It is still able to encourage air to enter the foot-chamber in order to cool the foot. Synthetic leather provides durable support for the upper, while an anti-gravel tongue keeps stones and other trail hazards from invading the interior.
- The platform of the Asics Gel FujiAttack 4 has a full-length foam that is lightweight, but durable. It cushions the foot well, making sure that it is able to spring it back up during the toe-off phase. The Gel® Cushioning Unit in the rear of the platform makes it easier for runners to land on the ground, as it removes discomfort from impact.
- A trail-specific outsole design makes this shoe very efficient when it comes to handling different kinds of terrain. Gripping lugs provide grip when it comes to uphill and downhill traversals. Durable rubber makes the external layer very durable.
Asics Gel FujiAttack 4 size and fit
The Asics Gel FujiAttack 4 has a standard running shoe length. The sizing scheme used for this model follows the norm, so men and women are able to choose a more relaxed fit for them. The semi-curved shape of this shoe allows it to accommodate the natural shape of the human foot. The available width is medium, thus making it comfortable for medium sized feet to fit well into it.
Same as with the popular Asics running shoe, the GT 2000 7, the FujiAttack 4 uses the AHAR+® or the Asics High Abrasion Resistant Rubber. It is a high quality material that’s placed on the entire surface of the outsole. It protects the rest of the mid-sole from the potentially debilitating nature of trail surfaces.
Multi-directional gripping lugs allow the runner to move more confidently on multiple types of terrain. These indentations on the surface of the outsole are able to hold the ground with ease.
The Solyte® mid-sole material is a lightweight unit that runs the entire length of the Gel FujiAttack 4 and also in the shoe's updated version, the FujiAttack 5. It cushions the foot well, keeping it comfortable at all times. It doesn’t break down easily, so it stays efficient for a long time.
The Gel® Cushioning System is a silicon-based unit located in the rear of the platform. What it does is that it attenuates shock during the landing phase, keeping the runner comfortable.
The Rock Protection Plate is a helpful component that essentially acts as a shield against jagged surfaces, stones and other trail debris that may poke at the sole unit.
Durable mesh makes up the upper unit of this running shoe. It covers the foot securely, wrapping around it in a snug manner. It even allows air to enter the shoe in order to provide ventilation to the interior.
Synthetic leather makes up the overlay system. It connects directly to the lacing system, adjusting accordingly when the shoelaces are tightened or loosened.
An ant-gravel tongue essentially closes the top opening of the shoe, preventing the infiltration of any small debris and dust.
Reflective coating makes the Asics Gel FujiAttack 4 visible under low lighting conditions. It makes the shoe reflect light shining on them. It’s a safety measure when running at night.
