Good to know
Stability and motion control add-ons are uncommon for workout shoes and are never present in CrossFit or weightlifting footwear. They are mostly found in walking shoes where the gait is easier to correct.
Training footwear typically weighs between 200g and 300g per shoe to accommodate agile workouts. Minimalist trainers go as low as 150g, while weightlifting shoes can go as high as 500g.

- The Asics Gel Fit Yui was crafted for studio athletes who tackle fast-paced and varied workouts. The upper unit is made of mesh for lightweight and breathable support. The laces are interconnected with the elasticated straps on the sides to provide an adaptable lockdown.
- The Rearfoot GEL system is placed in the midsole. It is meant to provide cushioning and shock absorption for the heel.
- A flat outsole accommodates quick movements and quick changes of direction. The AHAR rubber pods are strategically placed to ensure grip and protection.
The Asics Gel Fit Yui caters to female athletes with regular foot dimensions. It is offered in sizes ranging from 5 to 12. It tends to run a bit shorter than most other Asics shoes, so it is advisable to go half-a-size up. Widthwise, the trainer is available in the standard B – Medium profile.
The Asics Gel Fit Yui features a flat outsole with minimal texture for optimum performance on the gym and studio floors. Moreover, it allows for better contact with the surface, and it doesn’t hinder the agility of the wearer.
The outsole is a continuation of the midsole material which is durable and flexible. The AHAR (Asics High Abrasion Rubber) pods reinforce the high-wear areas, such as the heel and toe sections. The compound protects these areas from abrasion while enhancing traction.
Flex grooves are also found on the underside. They aim to make the sole unit more adherent to the natural bending of the foot, giving the wearer more freedom of movement.
The Gel Fit Yui employs a full-length EVA foam. This material works as a buffer to attenuate shock and provide cushioning for the foot. On top of it is a breathable textile footbed which offers soft and contoured support for the foot.
At the heel section is the Rearfoot GEL cushioning system. It enhances the cushioning in this part by minimizing the impact and accommodates a smoother heel-to-toe transition.
The Asics Gel Fit Yui makes use of a combination of mesh, textile, and synthetics to offer a lightweight, breathable and supportive coverage. The mesh is used in the forefoot for flexibility and ventilation. A smooth textile wraps the ankle while a synthetic overlay around the heel heightens the support.
The trainer uses a lace-up closure to secure the foot inside. Elasticated straps on the lateral and medial sides are integrated into the lacing system for a snug, customizable fit. Those who dislike the abundance of additional straps throughout the upper might as well consider the Gel Fit Yui 2, which sports a simplified look and a more traditional lacing system.
The padded tongue and collar deliver additional cushioning throughout the training session. These components secure the uppermost sections of the foot and prevent them from wobbling or feeling any discomfort.
