  • The underfoot cushioning was appreciated by many because it provided support and comfort.
  • Its lightweight nature was lauded by a lot of the testers.
  • Many noted that the toe box gave a bit of space for the toes to play naturally, which is helpful for the gait cycle.
  • Durable protection, traction and responsive cushioning make the outsole unit very efficient on the roads.

2 reasons not to buy

Bottom line

Runners who want to have a lightweight and responsive running experience are going to get it from the Asics Gel DS Racer 10. The mild stability mechanics that are present in it are helpful for those who also want a bit of support. It’s a solid option for daily running sessions, as well as racing.

49 / 100 based on 5 expert reviews

  • 80 / 100 by Runblogger • Peter Larson • Level 5 expert

The Asics DS Racer 10 is easily among the top shoes I have run in so far this year. It’s not a newly released shoe, but it’s one that I wish I had tried sooner.

  • 20 / 100 by Doctors of Running • Dr. Matthew Klein • Level 5 expert

As I mentioned, the ride was not smooth, the upper didn't fit well and was really stiff and durability do not look like it would be good.

  • 50 / 100 by Must Love Jogs • Must Love Jogs • Level 3 expert

I do not think it is a great shoe for a marathon.

  • 22 / 100 by Fellrnr • Jonathan Savage • Level 3 expert

I had low expectations of the DS Racer, but it still managed to disappoint me. The cushioning is better than I expected, but the upper is rather uncomfortable and the drop is too great.

  • 80 / 100 by Running Shoes Guru • Chase Babineaux • Level 2 expert

For the runner who uses stability shoes in training and desires the same in their racing shoes the DS-Racer should be considered a strong competitor near the top of its class.

Updates to Asics Gel DS Racer 10

  • The Asics Gel DS Racer 10 brings lightweight performance and support to those who need it. It has a streamlined look that doesn’t sacrifice its efficacy on the roads. A seamless construction makes this shoe feel smooth and comfortable on the skin, so wearing this mimics the feeling of wearing actual socks. The mid-sole technologies are helpful and they even give some stability, but the weight remains light. It gives quality service and dynamism to the running output of the runner by not being restrictive.
  • Open mesh is a fabric that employs an open construction, which means that it is able to allow air to enter the shoe easily. Doing so regulates the temperature of the interior environment, keeping it cool and dry for the runner. The foot remains comfortable at all times because of this mechanic.
  • Breathable support even extends to the mid-sole unit. It uses a vented design, which helps in reducing the sole unit’s weight while also improving its breathability. Air then constantly circulates. The cushioning system is very reliable, as well. It offers responsive underfoot support, impact protection, and even mild stability for those who need it.
  • Two rubber technologies are featured in the outsole unit of the Asics Gel DS Racer 10. The first one is in the rear of the shoe, which is made of durable carbon rubber, which is actually capable of withstanding wear and tear. The front of the outsole has blown carbon rubber, which adds a bit of cushioning and flexibility.

Asics Gel DS Racer 10 size and fit

The Asics Gel DS Racer 10 has a regular running shoe length. It comes in sizes that adhere to the regular measurements for men and women. The width of this shoe is medium, so it is able to accommodate those with medium sized feet. Its semi-curved shape allows runners to acclimate well to it because it actually mimics the natural curve of the human foot.

Outsole

AHAR or Asics High Abrasion Resistant Rubber is an integral part of the sole unit. It actually protects the mid-sole from the harsh effects of surface contact, friction, and continued use. It’s strong and capable of lasting a long time. It is also responsible for surface traction.

The DuraSponge is a blown AHAR that’s placed in the forefoot section of the outsole. It adds a bit of cushioning to the platform, and it even propels the runner forward during the toe-off phase because it’s flexible and mildly springy.

Outsole

The Solyte is a lightweight cushioning system that runs the entire length of the Asics Gel DS Racer 10. This high quality foam is durable and long-lasting. It delivers responsive cushioning to the wearer, protecting their feet from impact and discomfort.

The Gel® Cushioning System is a gel-based unit that’s located in the rear of the mid-sole. Its responsibility is to absorb impact shock during the landing phase of the gait cycle. It’s helpful when it comes to making each foot strike comfortable.

The DuoMax Support System makes use of a dual-density material that’s placed in the mid-foot area. It acts as a foundation for the arch, supporting it and preventing the inward rolling of the foot. Over pronated foot motion is avoided because of this unit.

Additional underfoot cushioning is given by a standard sock liner. It’s soft and it’s helpful when it comes to making the underfoot experience as comfortable as possible to the wearer.

Upper

The Open Mesh is a high quality fabric that has an open construction. It accommodates infiltration of air, thus making sure that the interior is as cool and dry as possible for the foot. It is also soft and flexible, thus making it agreeable to the natural movements of the foot.

A seamless construction allows the runner to use the Asics Gel DS Racer 10 even without actually wearing socks first. Such a design basically reduces skin irritation.
