Its silhouette is timeless, adding a touch of casual elegance to the shoe. Canvas makes up the upper, with leather paneling for the famous Tiger Stripe, the trademark image of the Asics brand. Perforations along the stripes allow breathability for the sneaker.
Added branding comes in the form of the Asics label on the tongue and the heel tab. A round toe design heightens the shoe’s classic appeal, along with the gum rubber sole in characteristic Asics tread pattern. The sophisticated flair of the kicks is further emphasized by the monochrome lacing with metal eyelets. Rounding off the shoe’s look is the padded low-top collar, which offers comfort for extended wear.
Asics can trace its beginnings to 1949, which was the year when Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Co. Ltd. in post-war Japan. He believed that he could raise up the self-esteem of young people through sports, so he began making athletic shoes for them. For inspiration, he kept in mind a Latin maxim, "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which means "A healthy mind in a healthy body." It would become the basis for the later name of ASICS, taken from the saying’s acronym in Latin.
Throughout the 1950’s up to the ‘70s, the Onitsuka brand continued to expand its range of sportswear, eventually transitioning to Olympic styles. The breakthrough came with the Mexico 66 model, which was the first shoe to feature the iconic crossed stripes that are now known as the Tiger Stripe. It’s an image that would come to define the brand for all time across the world. In 1977, Onitsuka Tiger merged with two other companies, JELENK and GTO, to create the ASICS Corporation, stylized as Asics.
Today, Asics continues to carry vintage shoes under the Onitsuka Tiger label. Meanwhile, the brand has pushed forward to offer sports gear and lifestyle wear for the modern man and woman. Athletic shoes make up the bulk of its revenue, followed by apparel and other equipment. Asics shoes are renowned for their sheer functionality, with minimalistic and modern designs. Each detail has a function, making each model well-balanced for everyday use.
Building on this legacy, Asics introduced the Aaron CV, a shoe made for casual activities. It takes the classic silhouette of the Asics Aaron shoe and updates it with sturdy canvas material. Completing the classic appeal is the characteristic Tiger Stripe, which dominates the upper. With a minimalistic yet sophisticated look, it’s a shoe that can be worn for any casual occasion. Its classic silhouette, sporty look, and emphasis on comfort are great for traveling, going to the gym, dining out or walking around.
