It seemed to be the best balance of simple, cushioned, responsive, low drop, flexible and comfy. I have trouble with over-engineered shoes with too much tech and marketing.
A high-mileage running shoe that has a good amount of cushioning, the 33-FA is kind of a paradox because atop that definite cushioning lies a firm footbed which allows the foot a firm and solid base on which to ride and function.
As I said above, the Asics 33-FA is a good high-mileage running shoe whose construction seems to belie it’s feel.
Asics does a commendable job at differentiating all three, and consequently the 33FA sits in the sweet spot. It is substantially lighter than the bulky 33M, only marginally heavier than the 33DFA, and the cushioning softness feels just right.
The 33-FA is a fine light trainer. Not quite as light as some of its competitors, it trades some weight for a firmer, and presumably more durable mid and outsole along with extensive full contact outsole coverage on the road.
This shoe has a 4mm offset which places the foot in a more level position thus promoting a more midfoot to forefoot strike which was my experience. Previously shoes in the 33 collection had varied offsets between 6mm and 10mm.
- The Asics 33-FA comes with an updated midsole to provide necessary cushioning while delivering flexibility. This shoe uses the Amplifoam midsole that delivers a durable, soft cushioning while enhancing flexibility and comfort.
- The 33-FA features the FluidAxis outsole with deep flex grooves that efficiently flex with the foot’s natural running movement. It responds to the runner’s weight and running transition, from impact to toe-off.
The Asics 33-FA is available in standard running shoe length. It has a narrow to medium forefoot and the heel and midfoot areas are in medium volume. This shoe can accommodate comfortably runners with narrow foot and those with regular foot measurements. This shoe is available in regular width.
This road shoe features the brand’s FluidAxis outsole technology that has deep flex grooves. It delivers enough traction while giving the necessary flexibility. As the foot moves, the flex grooves flexes naturally, helping runners experience an improved ride.
It uses the Asics High Abrasion Rubber that gives durability to the shoe’s outsole. It is strategically placed in high wear areas for long lasting use.
The 33-FA uses the full-length Amplifoam midsole that delivers necessary cushioning for natural running. It is engineered to deliver a soft and durable cushioning while giving additional flexibility and comfort. This works perfectly with the Solyte midsole material that gives durable, responsive cushioning.
The Asics 33-FA uses an open mesh upper that provides breathable and comfortable coverage. Just like the Patriot 10, the upper allows proper ventilation throughout the run.
The seamless construction offers a sock-like fit while reducing the possibilities of irritation and blistering. The ComforDry sockliner, which is anti-bacterial in nature, reduced odor and moisture while giving added cushioning.
