- Built on the foundations of the ATS Pro technology (where ATS stands for Advanced Torque Stability), the Ariat Terrain Pro is designed to provide hikers with equal amounts of comfort and stability. This technology serves as the boot’s sole unit which consists of the cushy footbed, EVA midsole with embedded shank, and Duratread outsole.
- The sole unit is constructed in such a way that gives the boot rockered heel and toe zones. The convex contour of these zones improves the wearer’s overall walking comfort.
- Nested securely on the Terrain Pro’s sole is its full-grain leather upper. It is a waterproof enclosure reinforced with sturdy, stitched-on overlays.
Terrain Pro is a standard-width, fairly true-to-size, mid-cut day hiking boot from Ariat. It is offered in whole and half sizes for both men and women. Its classic lacing system provides a secure, personalized lockdown and a snug fit. The padded lining of the tongue and ankle collar delivers comfort.
On the underside of the Terrain Pro is an Ariat-exclusive, grippy outsole called Duratread which is made of a specialized rubber compound. Its ergonomic construction harmoniously marries flexibility and durability.
Across the majority of the outsole’s surface are treaded, polygonal lugs for multi-directional traction. Horizontal grooves are strategically placed at key points to assist wearers during upward and downward maneuvers. The Terrain Pro’s outsole also has a prominent heel brake which gives adequate stopping power during descents.
Besides traction over mixed terrain, the Duratread outsole also provides extra forefoot protection by giving the toe box a rubber tip. The same kind of protective bumper can also be seen at the heel of the boot.
The Ariat Terrain Pro comes with a chunky midsole which is especially beefy at the heel. It is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate or EVA, a kind of material that is highly elastic and stress resistant. Its construction lends the boot ample cushioning, shock absorption, and stability. Its tapered build also gives the Terrain Pro a rather sleek profile.
Encased within the medial part of the midsole is a composite (non-metal), forked shank. It is an added component that not only stiffens the boot for extra stability, but also reinforces the arch zone for enhanced support and improved transitions.
Adding to the comfort level of the boot is the lightly cushioned yet flexible ATS Pro footbed. It features gel-like patches at the heel and forefoot zones for shock absorption. Its raised mid to rearfoot borders have a considerable height for extra support. In addition, this pliable underfoot cushioning has perforations that actively disperse heat and prevent moisture buildup.
Ariat’s Terrain Pro has a classic-modern vibe, thanks to its waterproof, full-grain leather upper complete with abrasion-resistant, rubber reinforcements at the heel and toe box. Its overall sturdiness and supportiveness are largely linked to the leather overlays most of which are securely attached to the main bootie in triple stitches. Ample padding is placed around the interior borders of the ankle cuff and on the back of the tongue. The inside of the boot is imbued with a moisture-wicking liner for a nice and dry hiking experience.
There is also a pull tab stitched to the back of the heel which makes on and off a fairly simple affair.
- Although the Terrain Pro is already waterproof, another version simply called Terrain Pro Waterproof is also offered. This version is crafted specifically with a waterproof membrane. Those in need of thermal insulation in their boot may opt for the Terrain Pro Waterproof Insulated instead.
