I will give the Timp 1.5 a solid try, if not buy. This is what I wanted the original Timp to be. I'm glad that its here. It has its quirks. They are not not terrible.
You have more flexibility in this version. A little more flexibility than the previous version. Softer, more flexibility, better heel fit. It's great.
I think the Timp 1.5 is a fine choice for a long distance trainer or ultra race shoe for those looking for all day comfort over dialed in speedy performance. Quality, comfort, style and attention to detail are superb.
For me, the Timp 1.5 was a winner. The thick, soft cushioning makes the shoe very forgiving, while the underfoot ground feel remained impressively good. The upper is compliant and neutral, and combined with the spacious toe box and flexible sole, makes this a shoe that encourages natural foot movement and will better maintain foot strength than more “supportive” and restrictive maximal trail shoes like e.g. Hoka Speedgoat.
It gives you that nice balance of high cushioning but not getting into a super heavy, super bulky shoe. Again, super super happy.
These shoes do pretty well. I'd say they're above average compared to most trail runners in terms of traction and stuff. It's a little slippy, you know if you hit a slick route or something like that but overall I'd say they're above average.
- Altra has modified the Timp to give runners better performance. This Altra running shoe features several updates specifically in the upper and midsole sections. These enhancements have made the Timp even better.
- The Altra Timp 1.5 features a new mesh upper, which is designed to give multi-directional flexibility. This upper material is also lightweight and breathable enough to keep the foot cool and dry through the run.
- The shoe also features a 4-Point GaiterTrap that helps prevent dirt, sand, and mud from entering the shoe. The gaiter trap comes in hook-and-loop tabs for seamless protection.
- Lastly, the heel counter of the shoe has been modified to enhance the overall fit and lockdown. It also delivers better in-shoe feel.
The Timp 1.5 is a trail running shoe designed for neutral runners. It is sold in standard medium sizing for men and women.
The shoe has a medium fit in the heel and forefoot sections. The foot-shaped toe-box has a wide fit which allows the toes to move naturally and comfortably whenever necessary.
The upper mesh is stretchable. It adapts to the shape of the foot, accommodating medium foot shapes and slightly wide-footed measurements.
The outer sole of the Altra Timp 1.5 features the same material and design from its predecessor. It uses the DuraTread material with TrailClaw technology. These two elements work together to give runners durable grip on varied trail surfaces.
The DuraTread is made from sturdy rubber material strategically placed into the outsole for durability. It is one of the reliable outsole materials that is also used in the Altra Superior 3.5 trail shoe. It gives protection to high-wear areas, helping the outsole withstand damages. The rubber material also gives reliable traction on soft and hard trail surfaces.
TraiiClaw delivers outstanding grip on varied terrains, on both uphill and downhill runs. It is composed of canted lugs that are strategically placed under the metatarsal for reliable traction during toe-off.
The Timp 1.5 has a softer and more durable cushioning compared to the first Timp version. The natural foot shape of the shoe gives runners comfortable underfoot protection. The zero-drop platform encourages better performance since it places the forefoot and the heel the same distance from the ground.
The shoe makes use of the EVA foam with InnerFlex technology. It gives lightweight and responsive cushioning that is consistent throughout the gait cycle. The InnerFlex technology delivers flexibility for a smoother heel-to-toe transition.
The Altra Timp 1.5 also comes with a 5mm contour footbed. It gives added cushioning for enhanced comfort and improved fit.
In the upper of the Altra Timp 1.5 is the multi-directional mesh. It is lightweight and gives the foot a comfortable and breathable wrap. It comes with a soft fabric lining, which gives the foot a smooth in-shoe feel. The mesh also flexes as the foot moves while running.
TPU overlays are also present in the upper of the Timp 1.5. These overlays provide a more secure fit around the foot. They also enhance the structural integrity of the upper.
Designed as a trail running shoe, preventing debris and dirt from entering the shoe is a major concern. The shoe employs a 4-Point Gaiter Trap with hook-and-loop tabs for seamless protection. Gaiters are sold separately, but once used, the trap is efficient enough in preventing dirt from building up in the shoe.
The Altra Timp 1.5 has a modified heel counter and lacing system. These enhancements aim to provide a better and more secure foot lockdown.
Lastly, this neutral running shoe has a moderate padded tongue and collar. They offer smooth and cushioned fit for enhanced overall comfort.
