- The HIIT XT 2 is another addition to the CrossFit shoe line from Altra. Comparing this model with its previous iteration, some of the changes are immediately apparent. There is now a plastic heel cup present at the back and the wrapped up rubber outsole has been relocated to the forefoot section instead of the midfoot.
- The upper is made from a durable mesh that offers breathability and support. Synthetic overlays protect the underlying material against abrasion.
- As for the midsole, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam is used. This layer attenuates shock and its ZeroDrop construction ensures a stable base. The PowerSole insole adds a cushioning layer for extra comfort.
The Altra HIIT XT 2 is a CrossFit shoe created for men and women. The gentlemen’s version comes in US sizes 7 to 15 while the ladies’ variation is available in 5.5 to 12. Though both variants are only obtainable in a medium width profile, they feature the FootShape toe box which gives the toes more room to spread out. A notable difference between the men’s and women’s style is that the latter employs the Fit4Her technology that accommodates a narrow heel and a high instep.
The underside of the Altra HIIT XT 2 is covered in sticky rubber that provides traction on most types of surfaces, especially gym floors. The compound wraps up at the medial and lateral side of the forefoot to deliver support during side-to-side movements and grip during rope climbs. The tread pattern on this model provides multidirectional grip and the flat design keeps the foot firmly planted during exercise.
The midsole is an EVA compound that absorbs shock but also keeps the foot steady. Like other Altra shoes, it has a ZeroDrop construction which means that the heel and the forefoot are at the same distance from the ground. This leveled disposition not only promotes an upright posture but also provides balance and support by keeping the foot in its natural position. Another popular CrossFit shoe with a zero-drop platform is the Inov-8 F-Lite 235 v2. It's also good for weightlifting and plyometrics but has a lower, more minimalist sole unit.
Inside the Altra HIIT XT 2 is the 5-mm PowerSole insole. It features a contoured design that allows it to hug the underfoot form maximum comfort and protection. It also prevents the foot from sliding around while training.
The upper of the Altra GIIT XT 2 is made of a durable reinforced mesh fabric. This material is constructed to withstand abrasion and keep the foot securely in place. It uses synthetic overlays on high-friction areas such as the toe box and the midfoot to protect the underlying fabric and prolong the shoe’s lifespan. A plastic heel cup is present at the back. It steadies the hindfoot during dynamic movements.
A traditional lace-up closure dons the midfoot which allows users to adjust the fit when needed. The collar and tongue employ padding to prevent skin irritation and the trainer from flying off the foot during exercise.
