It initially released in 2015 as a new addition to the Adidas Y-3 shoe line designed by Yohji Yamamoto.

Yamamoto's collaboration with German athletic footwear brand Adidas, which began in 2002, aims to create the perfect fusion of fashion and sports through innovative designs and expert craftsmanship. This collaboration is known officially as the Adidas Y-3.
