Mid-top sneakers extend toward the ankle for a little more support and hold. These lie somewhere in the middle between low-top and high-top sneakers in terms of usage and popularity.
Sneakers with collars that go above the ankles for optimal hold and support are some of the most sought-after models in lifestyle shoes. Most of these shoes take their roots from basketball and have easily or fashionably crossed to mainstream wear.

Adidas Spezial is a line under the brand's street-focused Originals. Spezial first started in 2012, and its merchandise was released mainly in the United Kingdom only. Long-time Adidas collaborator and fan, Gay Aspden, curated it.
According to Aspden, he wanted to create a range that is the antithesis of hype and something that would rather sit outside today's footwear bandwagon. Adidas Spezial's vision is to reimagine classics and celebrate a moment in time when youth and hip-hop cultures adapted sportswear.
Although Adidas Spezial was created in 2012, it's not introduced to the United States until early 2017. Most retro-loving sneaker fans were delighted with the line's collection, which according to Aspden is derived from his youth and upbringing. He also added that the line is inspired by an Adidas collection in the 80s called "Freizeit," which means "free time" in German.
The Adidas Winterhill SPZL was released under the line's Fall 2017 collection and is said to be the successor to the Adidas Mounfield SPZL. The shoe's name came from a hill called Winter Hill that overlooked Aspden's hometown. It is inspired by a vintage hi-top hiking boot that is a signature boot for a German mountaineer named Reinhold Messner.
- The pair is available in D – Medium width.
- Gary Aspden, the shoe’s designer, said that the main thing that he derived from Reinhold Messner’s signature boot is the color blocking.
- The Adidas Winterhill SPZL comes with the Adidas Spezial box and a leather hangtag.
