Extremely popular sneakers because of their price range, versatility when it comes to style, and freedom of movement. Almost everyone is guaranteed to have low-top sneakers in their shoe rotation.
Mid-top sneakers extend toward the ankle for a little more support and hold. These lie somewhere in the middle between low-top and high-top sneakers in terms of usage and popularity.
Sneakers with collars that go above the ankles for optimal hold and support are some of the most sought-after models in lifestyle shoes. Most of these shoes take their roots from basketball and have easily or fashionably crossed to mainstream wear.

Adidas Wensley SPZL History
The Adidas Wensley SPZL is part of the 2017 Adidas Spezial collection, which is curated by Adidas aficionado Gary Aspden. How the collection came to be is an interesting tale to follow.
The idea of a shoe exhibition dawned on Aspden in the first decade of the 21st century. Due to some prioritization concerns, the concept was shelved, but not for long.
By 2008, Aspden already had his own entrepreneurial pursuits, though he remained an important consultant for Adidas’s marketing campaigns. Because of the freedom that this setup afforded him, Aspden in 2013 finally acted on the exhibition idea. He was assisted by several valuable connections.
Taking more than five months to put together, the exhibition opened in July of that year. It featured more than 600 pairs of Adidas shoes that effectively relayed the story of Adidas’s various shoe revolutions. The items were from Aspden’s and some prominent fans’ collections. It was called Spezial because, according to Aspden, that’s what Adidas was, and still is, to him and others like him in the UK.
That exhibition in London drew a lot of attention from Adidas fans and everyday people. Adidas and Aspden were quick to make something out of the exhibition’s success, and just a year later, the first Adidas Originals x Spezial collection came out. The collection did not limit itself to shoes; it also included jackets, shirts, and other apparel. As such, the collection brought back memories of the Adidas Freizeit, which was a collection of lifestyle items that were ubiquitous in the 1970s.
It must be noted that while the collection featured premium products that draw inspiration from one or several Adidas classics, it was never meant to highlight nostalgia. What it asserts is the timelessness of the company’s designs. Aspden and his team believed that with the appropriate material upgrade, the items in the collection will be palatable even when examined by the discerning modern eye.
Every year since 2014, the Adidas x Spezial collaboration has released items that correspond to the market’s every need. The Adidas Wensley SPZL is part of the spring and summer collection for 2017.
