The Adidas Tubular was first released in the 80s as a basketball kick. It featured a minimal and cutting-edge design that was not received well by sneaker fans back then. It seemed that sneakerheads of the time were not quite ready for futuristic kicks. As a result, the tubular got shelved just two years after.
Fast-forward to a few years, Nic Galway the VP of Global Design for Adidas Originals was looking through the brand's archives and saw the shoe. Finally, in 2014 the company released the shoe in an all-new and improved silhouette and dubbed it the Adidas Tubular Runner.
According to Galway, the Tubular Runner is the product of half a decade of research. It was directly inspired by Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 Qasa silhouette. Since then, the Tubular family grew at an exponential rate. It has been reinterpreted in countless ways and has established its name as a must-have pair among the sneaker community.
