Adidas Superstar Xeno History
The Superstar is an icon that was first released in 1969 as a basketball shoe. At the time of its release, leather upper and shell toe on a shoe was unheard of and was considered as an innovative and fashion-forward concept. The unusual design, in turn, caught the attention of professional basketball players and eventually gained popularity amongst the masses.
The shoe nicknamed as “shelltoe” was held in such high regard that it naturally transitioned from the basketball courts to the streets. The hip-hop band Run D.M.C further popularized the shoe by making it their unofficial sneaker and even made a song about it. The Superstar’s ability to attract different groups of youth culture and fashion trends sealed its place as a timeless shoe.
Since its release, the Superstar has been re-interpreted in a lot of ways. It became a canvas for different artists and designers wherein they get to express their creative ideas. In 2015, Adidas released the Superstar Xeno. It is an update that features a reflective upper that changes its colors depending on the angle of light.
Xeno is a color-shifting technology developed by Adidas. The iridescent scales of the Xenopeltis snake found in Southeast Asia inspired the Superstar’s latest design. This modern twist on a classic proves to be a hit among sneaker fans.
Adidas Superstar Xeno Style
Already a classic, the Superstar has been enhanced to a more stylish version in the form of the Adidas Superstar Xeno. The shoe retains its predecessor’s retro silhouette but now boasts of an upper material that reflects and changes as the angle of light shifts.
This explosion of colors could elevate any casual outfit. Pair it with everyday staples like shorts, jeans, pants, or joggers to turn a rather boring ensemble to a fashionable one.
Fit & Sizing
The Adidas Superstar Xeno is available in men’s sizes only. The gentlemen can choose from sizes 4 to 14 in D – Medium width, while the ladies can go 1.5 sizes down from their usual size. The shoe is reported to run a bit bigger than the usual.
The Adidas Superstar Xeno dons a harmless style in the daylight with its snakeskin texture applied all over the shoe’s upper. However, it hides a unique feature, as it is equipped with the brand’s illuminating technology called the Xeno. Once the shoe is hit with light, an array of colors radiate from the upper’s material.
- The Adidas Superstar Xeno also bears the 3M reflective material on the shoe’s tongue and heel.
- The herringbone pattern of the outsole offers lightweight traction.
