Adidas Stan Smith Primeknit History
In the early 1960’s, Horst Dassler, son of the founder of Adidas, had an ingenious idea of applying a full leather upper on a tennis shoe. This led to the creation of the first ever leather tennis footwear which was later on named after Robert Haillet, a skilled French tennis professional.
Haillet, however, retired and was replaced by Stan Smith, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion who was also the world’s top tennis player at that time. Although signed as the official endorser of the shoe, the models released in the 1970’s maintained the “Haillet” name. It was only in the year 1978 when the shoe was officially named “Stan Smith”.
This minor confusion, however, did not affect the shoe’s status in the market. In fact, in 1988, Adidas was listed in the Guinness World Records for the millions of pairs of Stan Smiths it sold. Recently, this shoe also became a fashion phenomenon as it was not only seen worn by average consumers but also by fashion connoisseurs.
Since its debut, over one hundred limited editions have been produced. The Adidas Stan Smith Primeknit proved to be a promising addition to this sought-after line. A fusion of vintage style and innovative technology, this rendition, launched in 2014, continues to earn rave reviews for its timeless aesthetics, quality and enhanced comfort.
Adidas Stan Smith Primeknit Style
Rocking the Stan Smith’s during summer is now possible with this iteration. Crafted with a Primeknit upper, expect your feet to feel cool and comfy all day long even during the hottest of weather. Its Ortholite sock liner, which wicks away moisture, also ensures to keep your feet dry and odor-free.
This shoe is available in a wide array of color schemes, mostly in neutral colors or white with a contrasting color on the heel tab. Those who want to take the look up to the next level, however, have the option of buying the editions with bolder colors like vapor green, tech steel and semi pink glow. Regardless, all colorways look great with jeans, shorts and joggers.
Fit & Sizing
Built with a flexible upper, expect this lifestyle shoe to hug your feet in comfort in all the right places. The shoe's silhouette, however, although inspired from a basketball trainer, notably offers minimal support compared to the original version.
This low-top sneaker, which generally runs true to size, is available in men’s sizes 4-14 as well as 5 to 11 for the women’s.
Similar to the original Stan Smith, this shoe is noticed for its unadorned yet visually-attractive design that shows minimal Adidas branding. To top it off, the Primeknit material on this version adds appeal to the shoe’s already distinguishable silhouette. This tech also makes this sneaker ultralight and gives it adaptive support and superior comfort.
