Adidas Stan Smith OG Primeknit History

Horst Dassler, son of the legendary brand’s founder, wanted to create a tennis shoe that was made of leather. In the early 1960’s, this idea materialized and it was the first of its kind. Soon after, this model was dubbed as “Robert Haillet”, a professional French tennis player famous in those days.

Haillet’s retirement, however, led the brand to look for a replacement. Stan Smith, who was, at that time, the world’s top tennis player as well as a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, was the best choice. Interestingly, the models released during the 1970’s showed Stan Smith’s face but with the name “Haillet” written above it. The name was only changed from “Haillet” to “Stan Smith” in the year 1978.

Despite the minor confusion, the shoe remained prominent in the market. Acclaimed for its simple and clean yet classic look, this tennis shoe soon became a popular streetwear and later on a fashion phenomenon.

Over 40 years have passed, and this classic’s production continues. In fact, since its initial release, more than one hundred limited editions and general release versions have been launched. In spite of its many iterations, the brand made sure that its original form remained unchanged.

This holds true for the Adidas Stan Smith OG Primeknit. This model was initially introduced in February 2016 as the Stan Smith Primeknit. Three months later, the model was outfitted in OG colorways namely red, green and navy.

This rendition proved to be a great addition to this growing line. Fusing this shoe’s already iconic styling with the brand’s’ top-of-the-line fabric material called the Primeknit, this shoe does not only boast good looks, it is also popular for its enhanced fit and improved comfort.

Adidas Stan Smith OG Primeknit Style

Summer has always been a nightmare for Stan Smith fanatics. Today, however, loyal supporters of this iconic tennis classic can now rock this shoe even during the hottest of weather. Built with a breathable and ultralight Primeknit upper, this lifestyle sneaker promises to keep your feet cool and comfy all day.

The Stan Smith OG Primeknit, similar to the original, features a white upper accented by a colored heel tab. Due to its minimalistic design, this shoe can be paired with almost any sporty or casual clothing, including jeans, shorts and dresses.

Fit & Sizing

Expect this shoe, with its all-Primeknit upper, to mold and expand to your feet’s shape as well as surround your feet in comfort.

Given its flexible material, the Adidas Stan Smith OG Primeknit offers adequate toe room yet minimal support. This said, the shoe commonly runs larger than expected. Thus, the brand recommends buying a pair at least a half size smaller than your usual choice. This low-rise sneaker is offered in men’s sizes 4-14.  Women’s sizes are also available.

Notable Features

Most, if not all, sneakerheads will recognize the Adidas Stan Smith OG Primeknit for its unadorned, vintage look. The addition of the Primeknit upper makes this casual sneaker all the more attractive. Moreover, this shoe’s off-white rubber cupsole enhances its classic appeal. It also offers dependable traction and grip.

Additional Info

  • Secure and snug fit can be achieved with the help of the shoe’s traditional lace-up closure. This includes flat laces.
  • Subtle three striping is embroidered on the Stan Smith OG Primeknit’s lateral and medial side.
  • The shoe’s interior is lined with soft leather and textile for added comfort.
