Adidas Stan Smith GTX History

Adidas Stan Smith is a refurbished silhouette of Robert Haillet's signature kick in the 60s. When Haillet retired from the tennis court in 1961, the brand commissioned another tennis superstar Stan Smith to represent the Adidas on the tennis sport.

The brand used Haillet's signature kick and revamped with Smith's signature and mug printed on the tongue and full name on the heel. With its simplicity, this sneaker easily caught the attention of many followers. In 1988 alone, almost 2 million pairs were sold worldwide.

In 2012, Adidas discontinued the production of Stan Smith as they thought there was an oversaturation of this model in the market. In 2014, just after almost two years being off the racks, this model re-emerged and created a historic comeback in the lifestyle scenes.

For more than 50 years of being in the market, the straightforward and hallmark features of the Stan Smith have remained unchanged. To make it more popular to the current target crowd and appealing to many practical buyers, the brand made few modern tweaks and unveiled iterations molded from Stan Smith.

The Adidas Stan Smith GTX was released for Stan Smith fans to use even during the cold days and wet seasons. This iteration was inserted with the waterproof Gore-Tex lining to dodge heavy downpours and muddy puddles while staying stylish and staying on-point.
