Adidas Norfu SPZL History

It was in 2014 when Adidas formed the Spezial series as the brand's way to re-introduce the archived silhouettes to the contemporary market. Most of the filed shoe models were re-imagined with modern elements to fit the current trend.

The brand tasked two of the most avid collectors of Adidas shoes, Gary Aspden and Mike Chetchuti, to spearhead and curate several iconic profiles from the Adidas library. The Spezial collection aimed to embody the fruitful years of the brand and its impact on the current sneaker culture.

Five years since it was formed, the brand added another collection to the roster of Spezial series. In March 2019, Adidas launched the Summer/Spring 2019 lineup that features apparels, accessories, and sneakers that nod to the influence of the terrace culture.

  The Spezial Spring/Summer 2019

The SS 2019 Spezial collection was influenced by the personal Adidas collection of Robert Brooks, also known as Brooksy. Brooksy traveled all over Europe to cop a pair of Adidas footwear, resulting in a sneaker collection that is motivated by the capital cities of Europe.

The SS 2019 Spezial collection tweaked few of the sneakers from Brooksy's collection to give reference to the sneaker culture of London. This series includes several sneaker iterations, such as Adidas ZX 530, Adidas Whalley SPZL, Adidas AS 620 SPZL, Adidas SL80(A) SPZL, and the Adidas Norfu SPZL.

The Adidas Norfu SPZL, coined from the names of its predecessors, is a hybrid of two iconic Adidas silhouettes - Corfu and the Nizza. The iconic Adidas Corfu was part of the Island Series launched in 2015 while the Nizza is a 70s basketball footwear included in the "100 Best Adidas Sneakers of All Time" list.
