Adidas NMD_R2 CNY History

The Adidas NMD R1 (R stands for Runner) was unveiled in December of 2015 under the brand’s Adidas Originals line. The shoes were designed by Nic Galway, Global Design VP of Adidas, who wanted to create a new silhouette that would be instantly recognizable even from afar. The silhouette was created by referencing three models from Adidas’ archives: the Rising Star, Micro Pacer, and Boston Super.

Every part of the shoes were intended to have a functional purpose other than just a design. The Lego-blocking” feature on the soles provided stability to the sneakers, the heel mustache gave enhanced reinforcement, and the sole cutouts allowed the shoes to be able to move freely. The BOOST soles gave excellent energy return. This resulted in extremely comfortable and technologically-advanced sneakers that fit in so well with modern streetwear culture.

The NMD_R1 proved to be a success with so many stores selling out within minutes, and thousands of people waiting online to buy a pair. Adidas followed this original release with colorways upon colorways in the months after, including bred” and camo” packs as well as a Human Race” collaboration with Pharrell Williams.

The Adidas NMD_R2 was launched the year after the first NMD_R1. This second version of the NMD Runner contained much of the same details of the R1 like the Primeknit upper, the BOOST sole, and the sock-like ankle collar. However, Adidas removed the bumper inserts on the lateral sides of the shoes and retained only the ones on the medial sides.

Adidas NMD_R2 CNY Style

The Adidas NMD_R2 CNY shoes are a pleasing combination of trendy and vintage design. As with most footwear with a sporty vibe, these shoes would look best with casual outfits. Women can match them with a short denim skirt, shorts, leggings, and cropped or ripped jeans, and top them off with a tee or tank top. Men can pair the sneakers with cargo or khaki shorts, joggers, jeans, and selvage denim and topped off with a long-sleeved Henley or simple tee.

Fit & Sizing

The Adidas NMD_R2 CNY are unisex shoes available in sizes ranging from 4 to 14. A secure fit can be had by adjusting the sneakers’ lace closures.

Notable Features

The Adidas NMD_R2 CNY are very comfortable shoes that are made so by the premium fabrics and materials that make up the footwear as well as the brand’s highly innovative technology—the BOOST. The BOOST is an ultra-modern breakthrough that Adidas and BASF, a chemical company, designed together. It works by blowing up the TPU and reshaping it into small energy capsules that make up the midsole.

The BOOST gives a very high energy return and is reportedly three times more resistant to temperature than the standard EVA material that most shoes today utilize. This allows the wearer to have a more consistent run and which provides a comfortable all-day wear.

Additional Info

  • To celebrate the 2018 Chinese New Year, Adidas released CNY packs for several of their models including the NMD_R2 and the Ultra Boost 4.0. The NMD_R2 CNY features the Chinese character xi,” which means happiness,” embroidered on the shoes’ leather heel patch and printed on the sockliner.
  • The low-top sneakers contain gold lace tips, molded EVA lego-block” plug on the shoes’ medial sides, rubber outsoles, synthetic suede sockliners, and knit uppers.
