The sneaker introduces a new collar that conveniently deviates from the standard structure of NMD R1's sock-like fit. Its entrance is wide enough for the feet to be quickly slid into which is supported by heel pull tabs for more ease. The whole upper is assembled with Primeknit that conforms well with every movement while also administering maximum breathability. The shark teeth patterns surprisingly add structure and limit the stretching of the upper which is also the same case for the middle stitching. Another improvement is the external lacing system which features a Nubuck cage overlay with three pairs of eyelets for perimeter snug.

The right combination of the Nubuck heel straps that loop around the heel and the positioning of the lacing system makes the sneaker more stable than standard NMD R1's. The sneaker is created for men in a full-size range from 7 to 12.5 that runs in medium widths.

Revolutionizing the standard image of the NMD R1, the NEIGHBORHOOD Primeknit iteration includes an innovative lace cage and shark tooth patterns. These jagged shapes were hailed from the Shinsengumi flag which was a police unit back in the 1800s. This detailing was first seen in 2015 with the NEIGHBORHOOD x Adidas Originals Boston Super OG which flaunted the patterning on its midsole.

Other elements of the sneaker include complementing white stitches that run in the middle of the toe up to the tongue resembling that of the Yeezy's. NEIGHBORHOOD brandings are seen all over from the heel counter to the toe midsole plug which even includes Japanese symbols for "Far East." The tongue patch merges the Adidas and NEIGHBORHOOD labels on a printed medium. Heel pull tabs also vary in the text as the right displays "BRGD" (brigade) and the left has "NBHD" which is a shortened term for NEIGHBORHOOD.

The low top form of the sneaker is embellished in black even in the panels of the Boost midsole to add a more low-profile appeal. This myriad of accents made it easy for the Adidas NEIGHBORHOOD NMD_R1_PK to be styled in numerous clothing combinations starting with staples like jeans.

The stand out feature of the sneaker is its white zigzag patterns that hug the frontal part of the shoe. A lace cage overlay complemented by a heel counter adds dimension to classic NMD R1 silhouette. NEIGHBORHOOD Brandings are scattered all over the upper and interior including the front midsole plug. The non-removable insole also displays a generous amount of Adidas and NEIGHBORHOOD labels.

Starting from selling tees at the time when pop music went blasting in the clubs, Shinsuke Takizawa became involved in fashion at a young age. After working for Major Force, a defunct club-music record label famous in the 80s, he started his line of apparel in 1994 and named his company NEIGHBORHOOD.

Shinsuke got involved in different facets of artistic nature like music and clothing with a side hobby for collecting Harley bikes. The fashion designer mentioned that he acquired the inspiration for his affinity with London culture. He channeled all of these interests into his fashion designs molding a new trend of its own. From Japan, word of NEIGHBORHOOD's different take on style spread out to the world which would, fortunately, attract a lucrative merger from global brands like Adidas.

Adidas and NEIGHBORHOOD came a long way with redesigning Adidas Originals shoes like the Stan Smith and the Superstar. In 2015, a spring/summer collection introduced a full line of apparel and footwear. The franchise revamped the Adidas Originals Boston Super OG and indicated white shark teeth overlays at the midsole complemented by a skull emblem at the heel for an aggressive punch in style. The sneaker is splashed in black tones from its upper to its sole to spurt out a versatile appeal.

Invincible, a Taiwanese brand, shared NEIGHBORHOOD's limelight in 2017 and joined the partnership with Adidas to produce the very first attempt at remodeling the well-sought NMD sneaker. The Invincible x Neighborhood x Adidas NMD R1 was injected with Asian heritage from Invincible's tiger prints and symbols at the heel to the writings stretching from the heel tab to the insole. Adding flair to the silhouette are camouflaged tiger prints infused with tonal Adidas Three Stripes.

From its teasers in the previous year, the public anticipated another timeless collaboration with the Japanese retailer for 2018. The Adidas x NEIGHBORHOOD Capsule includes reiterations of select models tinted in black colorways. The shoe line consists of the Adidas NEIGHBORHOOD I-5923, Adidas NEIGHBORHOOD Chop Shop, Adidas NEIGHBORHOOD Gazelle Super, and the Adidas NEIGHBORHOOD NMD_R1_PK. Set to go public in February 2018, brand loyalists kept their eyes open with its limited release of 500 pairs each.

  • The midsole plugs grant other support which is the standing feature for the NMD sneaker. The lateral side contains two plugs while the medial view displays only one on the rear side.
  • The sockliner and heel lining are covered with a synthetic suede material.
  • A rubber outsole features waffle pattern holes making the white boost cushioning visible.
  • The sneaker is set to hit stores on February 24, 2018.
  • The Boost technology provides a lightweight feel with more responsive cushioning for all-day comfort.
