Adidas Marathon TR History

As a sneaker that was designed in 1979, the Adidas Marathon TR is remarked as one of the greatest sneakers of its time. These sneakers were introduced when the brand was making its name in the running world from Boston to Berlin.

These trail trainers became grossly popular because of its sole grip unit, composed of various Trefoils, giving that Adidas mark, literally, on every step. Although running shoes have always been embedded in the brand's forte, the Marathon TR launched a different part of running category—trail running.

The design of these shoes was personally overseen by the company's founder, Adi Dassler. It featured Ghillie lacing that helps with quick lacing and a Dellinger web midsole for comfort. This 2018, the sneaker that was locked away on Adidas' sneaker archives, is re-released.

Adidas Marathon TR Style

Similar to its original design, the Adidas Marathon TR only proves that its design is timeless, classic, and can still be relevant even after several years of being archived. It has a rugged design with an upper composed of synthetic mesh with certain pigskin overlays at the toe, heel, and eyestays. Use of different materials gives these sneakers certain elevation and texture.

Fit & Sizing

The Adidas Marathon TR is offered exclusively for men, with US sizes ranging from 5-13. Women wishing to avail this specific sneaker can go down 1.5 sizes down their usual for that ideal fit. These sneakers feature Ghillie laces for faster lacing system.

Notable Features

Re-released on January 9, 2018, the Adidas Marathon TR is much like the 1979s model designed by the company's founder. One of the most standout qualities that can be attributed to these sneakers is the intricately designed outsole, which has embossed hyper-aggressive Trefoil logos. This feature not only upgrades the style of the shoe but it provides exceptional grip, making it suitable to use on different surfaces.

Additional Info

  • The most recent release of the Adidas Marathon TR is called the "Epochal Pack," which includes a Royal Blue and Base Green colorway. Both of which have white Three Stripe detailing and white accents on the midsole.
  • These sneakers are incorporated with Ortholite sock liner which provides comfort and helps improve performance.
