Adidas Jeans Super History
Released as an all-around training and leisure shoe in the late ‘70s is the classic Adidas Jeans low-top shoe. Because of its profile and performance-based features, it quickly gained popularity particularly within the walls of the football community throughout the ‘80s. Designed ideally to be worn with jeans, the iconic Three Stripes shoe comes with an all-suede upper with contrasting Adidas Three Stripes branding on the side panels.
As with other renowned Adidas models, Adidas eventually stopped producing the Jeans shoe and focused on developing and marketing new shoes. It changed in 2003 when Adidas dug deep into its archive and reissued the Adidas Jeans for the first time. The old-school kick only proved that it hadn't lost its charm when it reissued the second time in 2009. Since then, it has been released several times more with a bit of a revamp through a soft and full suede upper, a leather heel tab, contrasting Three Stripes side reinforcements, tonal laces, a gold-stamped “Jeans” branding on the lateral sides, and a rubber gum outsole with Trefoil logo detailing.
The June 2017 release of the Adidas Jeans was different from the previous ones as it was the first-ever reissue of the late ’80s Yugoslavia-exclusive Adidas Jeans shoes. Called officially as the Adidas Jeans Super, this version can be likened to the original Jeans shoe – an all-around sneaker, but more of a stylish or lifestyle kind. It resembles the classic Jeans with its suede upper with contrasting Three Stripes and "Jeans" brandings along the sides but differs in such a way that it features the iconic Adidas window on the sides below the eyelets and a softer midsole wedge.
Adidas Jeans Super Style
The Adidas Jeans Super is an upgraded version of the classic Adidas Jeans in a slimmer silhouette and more premium, quality look. It features a softly textured suede material on its entire upper with contrasting synthetic leather Three Stripes on the sides. Adding to its retro appeal is a signature Adidas Window branding to the lateral side and other Adidas brandings on the tongue, insole, and heel counter. Sealing off its classic look is a gum rubber outsole that provides superb traction.
The Jeans Super low-top sneaker looks great when styled with jeans or denim. It flaunts a low profile, which can be highlighted through “pinrolling” your trusty jeans. It can also be worn with shorts for a more laidback look or paired with stylish socks for added oomph.
Like most low-top Adidas sneakers, this rendition of the iconic Jeans silhouette is currently available in a myriad of colorways to suit different styling options. The Adidas Originals Jeans Super shoes in brown, in particular, is a good choice if you want to keep your look neutral. There is also the Adidas Jeans Super in pink which has a bit of feminine touch to the athletic silhouette. However, despite the long list of Adidas Originals Jeans Super shoe releases, one colorway that stands out above the rest is the Adidas Jeans Super in turquoise and navy blue colors.
Fit & Sizing
The Adidas Jeans Super is a men’s shoe available in sizes ranging from 6 to 13, with half sizes in between, in D Medium width. It generally runs true to size. For the ladies who wish to acquire a pair of these classics, it is suggested to get 1.5 to 2 sizes down their usual sizes in women’s to get an approximate equivalent or size conversion to men’s sizing.
The tongue of this Adidas shoe features an extra tab in which the laces could loop through. Functionally, it avoids the tongue from slipping to one side hence allowing a more secure and comfortable fit on foot. The added heel stabilizer and the toe bumper add to its stability while the low-top structures enable flexible ankle movement. Overall hold and support of this Three Stripes shoe are excellent.
This updated version of the ‘80s classic from Adidas follows the silhouette of the original Jeans shoe, but with a few minor design tweaks. One of the first few things that stand out the most is the inclusion of an "Adidas window" branding on the lateral side panels visible just below the eyelets. It is the same kind of Adidas branding that can be seen both on the Adidas Gazelle Super and the Adidas Samba Super. This shoe also features a gum rubber outsole with Trefoil logo detailing as tread patterns for improved traction and added retro flair.
- Contrasting leather details on the Adidas Jeans Super can be found on the Three Stripes branding along the side panels and heel. Also, the Three Stripes side reinforcements feature serrated detailing.
- Other Adidas brandings are present on the midsole, heel, and tongue, while the "Jeans" branding can be found in metallic gold foil lateral to the iconic Three Stripes.
- This Adidas Jeans shoe also features a Cloudfoam sock liner, an injected EVA midsole, a T-toe overlay, and a suede upper with synthetic leather and textile lining.
- The Adidas Jeans Super in vibrant blue colorway was exclusively released through the UK-based footwear, clothing, and accessories retail shop Size? On June 30, 2017.
