Bottom line

Jumping on the modern-retro trend is the Spezial collection released by Gary Aspden. More than aesthetics that speaks well of both of iconic shoes-- Adidas Spezial and Indoor Super, it brings different emotions like nostalgia from the 80s rave scenes. Both sneakerheads and those that appreciate its minimalist and casual design can enjoy the versatility and comfort of this shoe.

The Adidas Indoor Kreft SPZL is a men's sneaker that is offered in sizes. Women wanting to get the same pair may do so as well. Only keep in mind to go 1.5 sizes down for that ideal fit. The lace-up closure allows users to secure the feet into their liking and the reinforced suede on the laces gives more durability on the shoe.

Before the resurgence of EDM, there was Acid house and rave parties. It was the era of the Second Summer of Love which designer Gary Aspden took inspiration from. Taking a step back and looking at the Adidas archives, Aspden takes a trip back to the partying scenes in Ibiza and combining it with the iconic silhouettes relevant during this time.

The Spezial set released in Spring/Summer 2018 features different designs that pay homage to throwback sneakers fashionable during the 80s. A part of this collection is the Indoor Kreft SPZL, a blue, white, and cream sneaker clad in a lightweight textile upper with suede overlays that replicates the original model. Much like its OG, the whole look of the shoe is kept minimal and clean. To get the same cool vibe as to how it was in the 80s, pairing it with frayed jeans and a simple t-shirt is the way to go. Adding a leather jacket to the whole ensemble can take the outfit to a different level.

The combination of two iconic sneakers was done carefully, and the detail that stands out for both were accounted for this collectible reissue. One of these is the distinct gum rubber outsole which sports an aggressive pattern to produce maximum traction. Although this is a feature that was purposely done because of squash, this also becomes useful when trudging casually on streets.

The Adidas Indoor Kreft came from the brand's archives, the Adidas Indoor Super. These sneakers were created for squash and were released during the prime of the sport, the '80s. The design of the shoe sports nylon upper with reinforced velour. It also features a rounded toe box seated on a flexible rubber outsole that is constructed specially for indoor wear.

Because of how excellently designed the Adidas Indoor Super was, it was able to not only be enjoyed by those who played the sport but those who appreciated the design for everyday wear. It gained the reputation of being the cool sneaker and best paired with frayed jeans to imbibe that rebel vibe. Although the shoe discontinued for a time, its timeless silhouette makes it one of the favorite pairs of designers to use when doing a throwback sneaker.

  • Staying true to the brand's old-school designs, the tongue has a vintage weft Adidas branding.
  • The Adidas Indoor Kreft SPZL amounts to $100 at the brand website.
