Mid-top sneakers extend toward the ankle for a little more support and hold. These lie somewhere in the middle between low-top and high-top sneakers in terms of usage and popularity.
Sneakers with collars that go above the ankles for optimal hold and support are some of the most sought-after models in lifestyle shoes. Most of these shoes take their roots from basketball and have easily or fashionably crossed to mainstream wear.

Adidas Forum Hi Crafted History
Adidas all began with the owner, Adolph “Adi” Dassler, having a love for sports, and he went on to create spiked shoes for track and field. This led him to team up with his brother and together, they founded the company Gebruder Dassler OHG which would soon become Adidas. In a few years time, Dassler’s designs and his shoes gained an international reputation thanks to Olympian Jesse Owens. Owens went on to attain four gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympic where he wore a pair of Dassler's track shoes. In 1949, Adidas was established, and it was destined to go up from there.
Success for the brand was quick on the rise, and by the 70s, Adidas turned into an athletic shoe brand that led to soaring sales in the United States. By 1972, with the Munich Olympic Games just around the corner, Adidas became the official supplier for the games. With that, Adidas’ began releasing more shoes, diversifying its collection and products.
In 1984, it released a basketball shoe in the form of the Adidas Forum. This shoe had a built-in strap with a high-top profile, and the brand integrated it with some unique technologies to make it an even better shoe for the court. Some of the different techs that Adidas incorporated was the Dellinger Web, introduced in the Adidas Forum. The Dellinger Web is a system of nylon netting that could help in dispersing the impact of the foot, softening the shock of every step. It worked pretty much like a shock absorber.
It wasn’t the only technology that Adidas integrated though, and the brand went on to add a foreflex toe cut. This added toe cut allowed for better mobility. Meanwhile, the crisscross system that the ankle leather straps had helped in preventing injury to the ankle.
It was such an insanely popular shoe back in the 80s that Adidas began releasing different iterations of the original silhouette which, to this day, still enjoys a good amount of popularity. Enough so that Adidas went ahead and released the Adidas Forum Hi Crafted in November of 2017.
One of the variations of the original Adidas Forum and a welcome addition to the ever-growing Adidas lifestyle sneaker line is this high-top kick. It utilizes premium materials and manual craftsmanship to create something fresh yet familiar for sneaker fans.
