Profile of the Adidas Crazy Strike 3

A team-model shoe under the Adidas Crazy line, the Crazy Strike 3 features an adiPrene+ and SprintWeb midsole, a wavebone traction pattern, and a SprintFrame upper. With a more streamlined aesthetic, this shoe is meant not only for on-court wear but also for casual wear as well.

Performance

Cushion. The Adidas Crazy Strike 3 utilizes a full-length adiPrene+ foam on its midsole. This cushioning is trademarked by Adidas and is usually paired with its regular adiPrene counterpart as their functions differ: the adiPrene+ focuses on energy return and springy responsiveness while the adiPrene zeroes in on energy absorption and impact protection.

For a guard-oriented basketball shoe such as this, designers choose responsiveness over energy absorption as guards are usually light on their feet.

Traction. The shoe's outsole uses a widely spaced wavebone traction pattern. Below the ball of the foot is a pivot circle that allows the player to turn and change direction quickly and smoothly.

A less-textured yet larger wavy pattern runs from the lateral side of the toe to the medial side of the heel. This also acts as the shoe's torsion system that helps avoid improper twisting.

The pattern on the heel forms a concave, leaving the center hollow. This allows the outsole to splay, resulting in a smoother ride.

Fit

Length and Width. The basketball shoe runs large; it is recommended to go half a size down. If unsure, fit the shoe personally in your local brick and mortar shoe store for a comfortable and snug sizing.

Lockdown. With its thick oval lace and seven pairs of eyelets that goes from the forefoot up to the ankle collar, the Crazy Strike 3 is sure to provide total containment. The third pair are actually lace loops made of straps that are connected to the midsole, ensuring that the midfoot is securely fastened into the footbed.

Additionally, the SprintWeb provide a supportive yet flexible enclosure.

Material

The SprintWeb upper was first seen on the first Adidas Crazy Light basketball shoe. The technology has been constantly modified with each succeeding release in order to improve its performance. The first edition of the SprintWeb simply features a fuse base frame with a sturdy mesh. Later on, layers of materials are added to its construction.

This technology removes much of the bulk that foam and other materials such as leather add to the shoe. Also, because of its use of mesh, ventilation is ensured.

One component of the midsole is the SprintFrame. This is a TPU chassis that gives structure and support to the shoe, especially in the heel and midfoot area, without the additional weight and layers. Attached to the SprintFrame is the bouncy adiPrene+ cushioning. The outsole is made of a non-marking, solid rubber compound.

Style

The shoe’s high collar gives it the traditional basketball sneaker’s look. The Three Stripes branding takes on a different form as the lines are made to wrap around the heel. The Adidas Equipment logo can be found on the tongue, forefoot, and outsole of the shoe.
