3 reasons not to buy

  • As suggested by a sizeable number of critics, this high-arch Barricade iteration isn’t appropriate for flat-footed court players.

Bottom line

The limited-edition Barricade 2018 takes on the same standout qualities as found in other Barricade shoes, mainly stability and durability. Loaded with support elements, this version appears to be rigid at first and requires break-in time. However, it is still considered one of the top-performing tennis shoes by Adidas.

Good to know

Adidas continues to innovate its well-loved Barricade collection by merging function and style with the Adidas Barricade 2018 LTD. This limited edition footgear carries with it the salient components of the Barricades with slight modifications to make it appear more plush and upbeat.

With the use of a stretchy mesh upper, this Barricade silhouette is meant to deliver breathability and comfort without putting much weight to the feet. The addition of memory foam provision on the heel is intended to distribute support around the joints.

Lastly but more importantly, the stability attribute of this shoe that permits users to speed on the court confidently lies on the Barricade chassis. This midfoot platform is the focal point of the Barricade models.

Material. Having an Adidas all-court shoe with the Adiwear 6 outsole tells much about the durability of the shoe. This type of rubber compound puts a lot of life to the footwear with its abrasion-resistant quality.

Traction. The Adiwear 6 offers a multidirectional herringbone tread pattern that allows better maneuverability during slides, stops, and spins.

Durability guarantee. Just like the Adidas Barricade 2018, this version is covered by a 6-month Replacement Warranty. This means that it can be exchanged for a new pair if its outsole incurs a substantial amount of damage.

Support. This athletic footgear is devised with the 3D Barricade triangular midfoot chassis. It intends to stabilize and support the foot during speedy offense and defense on-court movements.

This high-arch thermoplastic support is appropriate for players with neutral to supinated foot alignment. Or those with mildly visible midfoot arch and have feet that are organically inclined to roll outwards. This Barricade style may pose some foot discomfort and even injuries to flat-footed, low-arch, or overpronated users with feet that roll inward during movement.

Cushioning. Working as a buttress for the feet against impact, particularly on the heel, is the Adiprene cushioning unit. The Adiprene+ in the forefoot, meanwhile, provides energy return that’s needed when thrusting forward.

Comfort and Fit. The forged mesh works as a soft covering for the feet as it stretches and promotes breathability during the action-packed court games. Its lace-up structure help ensure a custom fit.

Added support. Adidas didn’t economize in reinforcement elements when it crafted the shell of the Barricade 2018 LTD. Its high-wear areas, mainly the toe and the medial forefoot, received an extra layering of abrasion-resistant Adituff material to extend the lifespan of the shoe.

  • Another variation of the Barricade 2018 is the Adidas Barricade 2018 Boost. As the name implies, it features the brand’s proprietary Boost cushioning unit.
  • The Barricade line is known since 2000 to provide stable support on any court setup.
