Technology has advanced in such a way that 3D printing and foot-mapping capabilities are now able to pave the way for other types of midsole units to replace the traditional foam. The Adidas Alphaedge 4D Reflective running shoe showcases such an advancement with the 4D lattice midsole. The upper unit has also been configured to be seamless, sock-like, and fully reflective.
The Alphaedge 4D Reflective was crafted to be true to size. Runners are encouraged to get this shoe with their usual choices of size in mind. Still, it would be beneficial for everyone if the shoe is tested first or if user reviews are studied. Being able to gain preemptive knowledge about the quality of the wear experience can better the perception of security and snugness.
Sock-Like upper construction provides the foot with an in-shoe environment that is non-irritating yet form-welcoming. The brand used foot-mapping technology to trace the shape and motion of the human foot, then translate the data to the outline of the midsole. The natural curvature of the foot is the basis of the overall design.
Continental™ rubber serves as the outsole unit of the Adidas Alphaedge 4D Reflective. This compound is commonly used in car tires, and its design its meant to uphold long-lasting performance and confident traction on the ground.
Underfoot cushioning is the responsibility of the 4D lattice midsole, a full-length piece made of sturdy polymer. The net-like design of this cushioning unit aims to evoke the responsive and comfortable surface of a traditional foam midsole.
Foot-mapping technology was used to determine the final look and structure of the midsole. The feet of runners were studied to finalize a platform shape that focuses on support, steadiness, and fluid motion through the gait cycle.
The upper unit features Primeknit. This technology is cloth-like in design and purpose because it wraps the foot and accommodates its natural shape and movement capacity. Breathing holes allow environmental air to circulate into the interior, thus enabling a cool and dry hug. Primeknit is used in many Adidas shoe series, including the updates to the revered Ultra Boost line.
The whole upper has been coated with a reflective layer to make it pop in low-light environments. Shining a light against the Adidas Alphaedge 4D Reflective would make the coverage visible.
FORGEDMESH is an Adidas design philosophy that involves thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) coating. The threads of the upper are coated to ensure long-lasting performance. The weight and the overall structure of the fabrics are not affected because this feature is meant to be incognito.
A one-piece opening provides the runner with a quick and easy means of wearing the shoe. The stretchy portal further encourages the perception of being wrapped in a sock.
