The Nike Air Technology was unveiled in 1978 in the Tailwind silhouette. This revolutionary tech features visible Air cushioning, which is a first in the sneakers domain. It was a result of thorough experimentation which turned as an iconic element in the footwear world.
Over the years, the Nike Air was retooled and redesigned while keeping all the heritage details. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Nike Air Max 1, the Swoosh launched the Nike Air VaporMax, which is considered the most advanced shoe to date.
The sole of the VaporMax is made of 39,000 components, which makes it more complicated with a high-powered engine of a car. The team took almost 15 tries to perfect the shoe since the material is fused straight to the Air units and produced lightweight, responsive, and flexible footwear. The upper is dressed with Flyknit material reinforced with the Flywire lacing system for a secure fit to deliver total harmony with the wearer's body.
Meanwhile, the co-founder of the Berlin-based brand ACRONYM, Errolson Hugh, first collaborated with Nike in 2015 using the Lunar Force 1 silhouette. A year after, Presto Mid was used as their based model for partnership and in late 2017, ACRONYM and Nike used the Air Force 1 to launched the AF1 Downtown iteration. According to Nike, each of their collaborations resolved few discrete functional glitches.
In March 2018, the fourth collaboration was unveiled using the Air Vapormax Moc 2 profile and revamped with incredible graphic design on the upper to create visually pleasing iteration instead of creating a functionally upgraded kick.
The Acronym x Nike Air VaporMax Moc 2 features nothing vintage but more on fashion-forward design. The team wanted to launched visuals that depict aggression and speed while keeping the kick wearable and functional.
