Summary

We spent 4 hours reading reviews from experts and users. In summary, this is what runners think:

7 reasons to buy

  • The textile mesh and synthetic overlays make the upper unit more secure and comfortable.

  • The interior lining is made of a soft textile over adequate padding, which heightens the comfort of the foot as noted by a few testers.

  • Some runners appreciated the removable insole, which lets them add more cushioning if they wanted to.

  • Lightweight cushioning and shock absorption are handled by the EVA full-length mid-sole foam.

  • The Heel Grid System enhances the cushioning and impact protection for the rear section of the foot.

  • The XT-600 outsole offers durable protection and traction over the roads.

  • The men and women’s versions of the Mayhem 2 have average weights, making them great for most runners’ preferences.

3 reasons not to buy

  • There were runners who were turned off by its look because it was too shiny like some form of plastic.

  • Some runners felt that it was one size smaller than most shoes with regular sizes.

  • A few noted that the mid-sole needed a bit more cushioning to fully provide a plush underfoot platform for longer races.

Bottom line

The Mayhem 2 from Saucony is a running shoe that’s reliable, very effective, and has moderate arch support. The individual parts work well and the comfort is superb. It’s a great option when it comes to running and other athletic activities.

World wide, Mayhem 2 is in the top 50% most popular running shoes. The brand, Saucony, is the 6th most popular.

Updates to Mayhem 2

The 2nd version of the Saucony Mayhem gives lightweight, flexible and durable performance to the runner. It can handle the impact shock when landing the foot on the ground. Natural movement is very much allowed because of the responsive nature of its platform. It’s a running shoe that delivers quality design and features.

A well-ventilated running experience is what the upper unit of this running shoe offers. Soft mesh, padded sections, and breathable inner lining keep the foot comfortable and secure. Synthetic overlays help the fabrics in hugging the foot and keeping it in place.

High-quality cushioning and underfoot support are afforded by a mid-sole unit that’s responsive, flexible and moderately thick. Additional cushioning is given to the heel by the Heel Grid System. Overall, the platform is able to provide reliable cushioning, shock absorption and flexibility, which are all important for a smooth and efficient running experience.

Lightweight protection from wear and tear is the main purpose of the outsole unit. For the Saucony Mayhem 2, the external shielding gives impact protection and endurance from abrasion. Triangular gripping lugs give additional cushioning while also affording traction over many surface conditions.

Mayhem 2 size and fit

The Saucony Mayhem 2 has a standard running shoe length. It follows the regular measurements pertaining to men and women’s sizes. The forefoot, mid-foot and heel sections have a medium width. It accommodates the runner who has a medium-sized foot. Furthermore, its semi-curved shape traces the natural shape of the human foot.

Outsole

The XT-600™ outsole is a carbon rubber material that offers durable protection against the abrasive nature of the surfaces. Located in high-wear areas, it is also able to protect the shoe from impact, preserving the structure and strength of the components that lie above it.

Triangular gripping lugs are sections of the external sole unit that hold onto the surfaces. They deliver traction upon ground contact, so each step, swerve and turn becomes as efficient as can be. Flex grooves allow the foot to move naturally, making sure that the platform is as attuned to the foot’s motions through the gait cycle.

Midsole

Molded EVA is a full-length foam that runs the entire length of the Saucony Mayhem 2. Made from high quality materials, this foam delivers plush cushioning, springiness and flexibility. It is able to attenuate shock, making each step more comfortable and less tasking to the runner.

The Heel Grid System is an added unit that’s placed in the rear section of this running shoe. As most of the body’s weight is focused on the heel, more support is definitely deserved. This unit absorbs impact and increases the amount of cushioning that’s given to the runner.

Upper

The mesh material used in the Mayhem 2 is soft and pliable. It encourages air to constantly enter the shoe to keep the foot cool and dry.

Synthetic Overlays provide a more customizable wrap because they’re directly connected to the lacing system. When the shoelaces are tightened or loosened, the material follows suit, thus hugging the foot responsibly and snugly.

A padded tongue and collar help in keeping the foot in place. They lock the foot in place while keeping the skin as cushioned as possible.

A breathable mesh lining keeps the interior environment airy. It dries up quickly, so moisture and odor are kept at bay. The smoothness of this material allows the foot to wear the shoe, even without the use of socks.
