Summary

We spent 4.7 hours reading reviews from experts and users. In summary, this is what runners think:

7 reasons to buy

  • The Ultralite Mesh is a lightweight material that brings breathable and comfortable coverage.

  • Many reviewers appreciated the Fastwitch 7 because of its Flex Film Overlays, which are welded thin components that keep the foot snug and secure.

  • The Saucony Super Lite EVA offers a moderately springy and flexible underfoot platform, encouraging the runner to keep moving.

  • A Dual Density Medial Post stabilizes the foot and controls motion by encouraging a better and more efficient stride.

  • The PowerTrac is an outsole unit that provides more traction than the usual outsole components.

  • The Fastwitch 7 has a lightweight nature.

  • It has an affordable price.

4 reasons not to buy

  • There were runners who noted that the upper material was torn apart after a few months.

  • Some reviewers felt that it ran ½ size small.

  • Others noted that the forefoot area was a bit narrow.

  • A few of the testers said that the Flex Film made the upper stiff and unwieldy.

Bottom line

The Fastwitch 7 is an update that surely improved upon its predecessors in many ways. It retains a lightweight nature and it maintains a set of reliable components that make performance better. It’s a solid option for neutral runners and those who need additional underfoot support.

The ride has some of the feel of a minimalist model: firm but not hard, with less than a 4 mm heel-toe drop and a wider forefoot than most racers.

The only minor thing that hasn't changed is the lateral forefoot sole flare.

The Fastwitch 7 is super comfortable. The upper is a great material – very breathable! The toebox is a decent size and I wouldn’t change anything about the fit.

So given the Fastwitch has a mass under 220g (but not too far under - 198g), this may be a suitable option for runners looking to get into a performance shoe whilst maintaining a relatively high amount of cushioning underfoot that they may be used to from their volume trainers.

Perhaps it is the trail runner in me, but I like a little grip. This shoe provides just enough.

To summarise, if you want a solid and sturdy race shoe for distances of 10k upwards then this would be a perfect choice.

Updates to Fastwitch 7

The 7th version of the Saucony Fastwitch offers stability, comfort and high levels of traction. It’s a racing shoe that gives lightweight performance and a stable feel for a more agreeable running experience. The 4mm drop from the heel to the toe allows faster transitions through the gait cycle, as well as a balanced ride.

The upper unit of this running shoe uses materials that are lightweight and flexible. Breathability is key and it is evident in this model. The foot stays dry and cool in an interior environment that’s durable and secure. Even the overlay system doesn’t use heavy layers or stitching as it maintains its lightweight and flexible nature.

The mid-sole platform isn’t too thick or too thin. It has a more streamlined profile that caters to many types of runners. The cushioning system used in this unit is comfortable and it even gives a springy ride that makes each step more responsive. Stability is afforded in the mid-foot by a dual-density foam.

A new outsole technology is used in the Fastwitch 7. It’s durable and protective against wear & abrasion, but its main purpose is to deliver high levels of traction over wet and dry surfaces. It’s dependable and efficient.

Fastwitch 7 size and fit

The Saucony Fastwitch 7 has a standard running shoe length. It follows the regular measurements when it comes to men and women’s sizes. The available width is medium, so runners with medium-sized feet are accommodated by this shoe. The semi-curved shape allows the natural shape of the foot to adapt well to it.

Outsole

The PowerTrac is an outsole layer that offers protection from the abrasive nature of the asphalt. It also delivers three times more traction, so the runner can move confidently in dry and wet surfaces. It holds onto the ground responsibly, so slippage is prevented.

Flex grooves allow the mid-sole to move in tandem with the runner’s foot. Natural flexibility is achieved, with these grooves to make the platform more responsive and pliable. Toe-offs are much better because of this design.

Midsole

The SSL EVA or the Saucony Super Lite EVA foam is a full-length material that delivers responsive cushioning and a bounce-back mechanic to maintain a springy and smooth ride that’s going to encourage runners to keep moving forward. It’s a pliable material, so it allows the foot to move naturally.

A Dual Density Medial Post is placed in the medial mid-foot section of the sole unit. It stabilizes the foot by preventing the inward rolling of the arch. A neutral stance is maintained in the process, thus keeping the foot in a balanced position and free from potential injury or discomfort brought about by unnatural foot pronation.

Upper

A lightweight and breathable air mesh is used for the upper unit of the Fastwitch 7. It moves along with the foot nicely and it doesn’t make the runner feel restricted. Air constantly enters the shoe in order to maintain a well-ventilated inner environment.

The FlexFilm overlay system enhances the snug feeling of the upper without adding too much weight to the shoe. The overlays are bonded onto the upper, therefore getting rid of unnecessary layers and stitching. With this, the structure of the upper is sustained as the foot stays in the snug and secure embrace of the upper fabric.

The inner sleeve uses a soft fabric, which allows the foot to stay comfortable and free from irritation. The runner can even wear it without socks because the material gives off a sock-like fit.
