Compared to softer shoes I found I was definitely running further, faster and was less tired.

Not only is the Vanquish 2 considerably lighter (almost 2 full ounces lighter per shoe!), it also rides more smoothly and is more responsive than the original.

Those who have tried the Cliftons, but are looking for that additional stability and a slightly more ‘constructed’ feel will appreciate what they offer and anyone looking to dip their toes in Hokas for the first time will find them an excellent place to start.

The Vanquish 2 runs well on the road, off the road, I don't know yet what the Bondi does that the Vanquish 2 can't do at an ounce less, and with what is certainly a better sockless experience for those so-inclined.

So, if you're… looking to try and run or even do walking and you need some great shoes, I cannot recommend these enough. I absolutely love them.

The high level of comfort and rebound that this new sole provides definitely outweighs those issues in my mind making this a very solid performer from Hoka.

A top layer of soft foam delivers the trademark highly cushioned feel, while at the ground level a more responsive base layer supports and propels your stride.

Updates to Vanquish 2

The Hoka One One Vanquish 2 comes with an enhanced midsole layered with two EVA compounds. It comes with ultra-size cushioning that provides high impact protection and efficient energy return for a more responsive ride.

The Vanquish 2 also comes with an improved upper built. It comes with a seamless upper construction with asymmetrical external web specifically designed to provide zonal support and added breathability.

Vanquish 2 size and fit

The Vanquish 2 is true to its size. The heel and midfoot are of standard measurements while the forefoot is a bit narrow. This shoe is ideal for those narrow-footed runners. Hoka One One is offering this shoe in standard D and B widths for men’s and women’s respectively.

Outsole

The full ground contact design of the shoe delivers an enhanced traction and ground feel. It also helps runners experience a smoother heel-to-toe transition. The high abrasion rubber is strategically placed in the sole unit to give added durability on high wear areas without adding too much weight on the shoe’s overall construction.

Midsole

The dual layer EVA midsole delivers maximum cushioning and underfoot protection. The midsole provides efficient shock absorption and high energy rebound for a responsive rider. The combination of the high rebound EVA and the high cushioned EVA top midsole is a great feature this shoe offers. Also, the Early Stage Meta-Rocker Geometry delivers a smoother ride and enhanced propulsion.

Upper

The upper of the Hoka One One Vanquish 2 features a seamless construction. The air mesh material with Zonal 3D delivers a breathable and lightweight upper coverage with added support. The external web design provides support and improved foot wrap.
